hi all the other day picked up my 4th Volvo a 98 S70 wich runs like a top, but today a strange thing happened. everything had been fine up untill I tried to open my driver door from inside and the latch felt very sticky then it stoped working altogether, so before I tear it all apart anyone have Ideas what it may be? the car has 205K miles on it but it all works well

I bet you its the door lock actuator line.

Take off the door panel and inspect the lock actuator assembly. Follow the black line from the actuator to the handle. If the line detached from the handle then you will not be able to open the door with the handle. If the actuator is fine and the line is not detached, then check the handle mechanism itself. It is tensioned/loaded with a spring, and you will be able to see if the spring came off or something like that.

edit: the handle is held on with 5 torx screws. You will need to remove it to inspect the connection to the lock actuator line.

turns out it was the cable was off the black end piece has broken, however a quick trip to my local delership and a top mechanic there, Kenney, gave me a tip that worked rather than buy a whole new cable!! right underneth where the cable slides into the door handle, there is a rubber bumpstop, cut that out and get a thin tie wrap and put cable in place and volia it works like a charm and saved mucho denero!! So her is the tip for any one else with that problem. Have a great Volvo day to all of you

I just did my pass door actuator. All in all one hour.

Search the forum/internet on procedure for "door panel removal".
You may need a few plastic clips from dealer b/c in the process of door panel removal, some clips may be broken.
Then in your case I suggest you open both sides and compare the setup.
Then fix the bad side using the above trick.
It is very straightforward after you open it up to see the anatomy inside.
