We took a tour back in June,

tried it then, loved it, bought 6 cases once we found it in stores....

Am i the only one unimpressed by #9? I guess I expected more..

#9 is odd. It grows on you. At first I hated it, then it slowly became better every time I gave it another try.

I had to register my basement as an NFA item.

i mean it sounds like some work was put into it:

Quote

Truly the epitome of brewing's two thousand year evolution, Samuel Adams Utopias® offers a flavor not just unlike any other beer but unlike any other beverage in the world. The 2009 release is a blend of batches, some having been aged up to 16 years in the barrel room of our Boston Brewery, in a variety of woods. We aged a portion of the beer in hand-selected, single-use bourbon casks from the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery. The latest batch also spent time in Portuguese muscatel finishing casks, as well as sherry, brandy and Cognac casks. This flavorful, slightly fruity brew has a sweet, malty flavor that is reminiscent of a deep, rich vintage port, fine cognac or aged sherry.

look around at what other people are charging, it's insane.

at this point, the most i paid for a single beer is $75, but it was huge.

Sam Adams Utopia was worth a taste, but as far as massive, cask-aged "beers" - I had a snifter of a British "beer" called Tactical Nuclear Penguin that was absolutely spectacular.

Westbrook Brewing Company (local here in Mount Pleasant) has been getting better and better. The made a rye based barleywine last year for Brewvival at Coast (not to be missed if you are anywhere near the Charleston area, btw) called "Uberbier #2" that was decadent and massive.
1959 PV 544, 1971 P1800, 2001 C70 -- all three Nautic Blue, normally aspirated, and stick shift.
