Hi,
I removed my front drivers and passenger door handles to repaint them. I was able to remove the handles with the door lock cylinders installed. Based on a thread posted here in the past ( http://volvospeed.co...1 ), a member said that he was able to reinstall the handles with the lock installed. Ive tried for the past couple of hours with no luck.
I then went with my second option of removing the door lock cylinders. The instructions in the Haynes manual seem simple. It says to simply to insert the key into the lock cylinder and insert a small screwdriver into the spring plate and push in. At the same time, you can pull the lock cylinder out.
Ive tried both pushing in on the spring plate and spreading the retaining ring while keeping the key turned at 45 and 90 degrees. Unfortunately after a few hours of trying almost everything, nothing seems to work. All of this is taking place while the handle is off of the car.
If anyone has any other tips, they would be greatly appreciated!

Ok I finally figured it out, I might as well post my solution for future reference. As usual, the Haynes manual is vague. I had to custom grind a set of small retaining ring pliers. I then used the pliers to spread open the spring plate clip, at the same time, I had to turn the key to to about 45 degrees, and then nudge the lock out. It does not slide out easily, but eventually it slips out.
