i noticed when i began this rebuild that the nuts and bolts on the exhaust mani were very loose. some were scarcely finger tight and the DP had to be tightened a couple times. what are you using to prevent this? will lock washers do anything for me?

Make sure the studs are secured in the block. After that the nuts can go on together with the OEM thick washers and the nuts need to be torqued down to factory spec which is only 25Nm. Best would be to tighten them clockwise from the middle to the outside. There is one smaller hole in the manifold in the middle where you can start.

Once they rust on their good. You can use a jam nut or wire them in the mean time. Mine are wired and have never had an issue.

This post makes me want to check my exhaust nuts. I never thought they could come that loose.

Downpipe ones back off all the time. Service manual even says to check them. Manifold ones do not have this problem except when new. Once they rust on you are good to go

lol, or torque them when the engine is steaming hot, then you won't have an issue :)

I know of another way to keep nuts on, it is much faster and easier. The method might be slightly offensive to some religions though. :o :P
