Whatever the record is, I'm confident I can beat it.
It functions a ton better than the stock system, that's for sure. Haven't had the time to take out the box yet. Hopefully I'll get that done today.

Go learn about modding your car before doing crap yourself. If you have no idea how something works, you shouldn't try it until you effin learn about it first.

Step one take out the oem air box
step two move the air filter
step three make a heat sheild
Step 4 cut your pipe shorter and reattatch the tip so it fits flush with the bumper and level to the ground
The tip will still be ugly but if you like it well thats up to you

As for the airfilter- I took out the top of the air box and put the filter directly on the intake pipe. Before taking out the bottom of the box, I wanted to ask what the silver pipe going to the box is. It goes from the back of the engine compartment all the way up to the front left corner of the air box. Another question I have is, how important is it for the filter to be facing forwards? Right now it's facing directly to the right. Thanks to those who are helping.

Lose the tip, and fix the redundancy and design of your intake. By the way, that blue urethane hose, even though it's ribbed on the outside..is actually nice and smooth on the inside. We use those hoses to spray thermal and acoustical insulation and they are probably the cheapest, and closest thing you can get to mandrel bends.
Part of my home-made CAI, which terminates at the driver side grille of the front bumper, is 3" urethane hose. I've datalogged and monitored the MAF and O2 sensors for 30 minutes after I put it on and nothing points to anything out of the ordinary

I guess that "silver" pipe is the pipe that connects your air intake to your turbos. The placement of the air filter does not matter. Quick fix, start from scratch, remove the top of the filter box and drop in a K&N. It will basically do nothing but at least you have added something correctly to your car. Just read the forums, there isn't a lot about S80 modifications, but you can gain a better idea of where to start. I hope this helps you young arob.

you have come a long way since the first post in this thread, there may be hope for you yet. keep asking questions and thinking stuff through.
your not gonna gain much if any power with just a better intake on that engine, but you will be able to get some nice sound out of it if thats what your into. Get rid of the bottom of the box for starters and keep the filter directly on the maf. dont know what the silver pipe is, i'll try to find out for you on my parents S80 tomorrow. You may lose an hp or two from doing this because you will suck in hot air, but nothing noticeable. Making a heat shield will get you back this power plus maybe 1 hp if you do it right and your filter is a good quality one, but again nothing you will notice. no heatshield will be the loudest though. It does not matter which way the cone is facing.
