So, my engine swap being finally done (aside from the angle gear being broken) I went to start the car today. It cranks and cranks, but won't actually kick in.

The plugs and wires are new, the cap and rotor are in good condition... ipd wires / ignition cable, NGK plugs gapped to 26, meticulously.

There seems to be some sort of gurgle sound coming from the rear of the car when it primes the engine, almost like its out of gas?

The problem is, there's at least a quarter of a tank left in the car.

I checked to make sure the transmission had the right amount of oil, and it's to the top of the "Cold" side of the stick.

Can anyone else think of anything? I'm perfectly willing to accept that I hooked something up wrong, as long as it's reasonable.

Fuel and vac lines are all correct, though...

Thanks alot!

Fuel pressure at the schrader valve?

Definitely sounds fuel related.....have to look into the whole swap probably to see where exactly went wrong...

Aren't the shrader valves just the ones that the fuel lines use?

Both ends of the fuel line were under-tightened, and leaking gas when I first tried it. Fortunately, the starter wasn't completely hooked up, and it just spewed gas onto the ground.

How could I check out the fuel pump?

It worked fine before the swap...

Could any of the sensors prevent it from kicking on?

Turn on the igintion without starting (just I apst ACC and don't go to II). The pump whine should be audible - in FWD, the pump sound will be coming from passenger side read set area. Not sure about AWD/XC where similar sound would exactly come from.

Sure.

Cam sensor, and I think there might be a few others

Make sure all electrical connections are plugged in...FIRMLY. I mean go back and double check everything. Make sure you check the connections to the injectors too, a lot of times it looks like they are plugged in when they really are not.

Make sure that the started is hooked up correctly.

Also, are you sure the battery isnt low on juice? Did you try a jump start?

I double checked to make sure all connections are firm and in, after my last debacle with my injectors. However, I may have mixed up a cam sensor. Probably with the transmission sensor or whatever its called...

The battery is a total POS, so all attempts were done by jump start when the first crank failed. I'll run through the major sensors I can think of when I get home.

Could I possibly just take a code scanner to it, and figure out which ones aren't hooked up that way?

I would say Fuel Injection Relay, but I don't think your car has one. Make sure to check TPS and as previously mentioned by Adam, CPS. Also, when one of these cars does not spark due to an electrical relay, there should be a temporary code thrown although that code does not necessarily point to the right part.

Case in point, my FI relay died and the car threw a TPS ground circuit code.

I'll try switching out the CPS pigtail. I'll take a look at Billy's T5 to get a better grasp on where it should go, but I'm pretty confident in what I fudged up hahah
