i dont think the japan mani started until 04, right? so if not would the exhaust mani from an 02-03 be any kind of improvement over mine?

ive sourced a 16t angled on an 03, and i was just going to get the mani as well if it was a japan, but i guess its not :( , but is it any improvement? please let it be, lol.
my 854T5 with a nice list of mods was totaled by a dumb girl driver :(

I was just at the JY and 03 manifolds are the same as my 97..

I wanted to grab one if it was an R or Japanese

but after all that work to remove it, it was same as mine :/

I think the Japan manifolds are on the 01's and later. They are pretty common.

If the manifold doesn't have the braces in the collector, it will be an improvement.

...at least it won't have the EGR and you can stick a later intake on it to completely get rid of EGR. Will create a bit more room in the engine bay and less heat. Win win.

is the 10th digit on cars the year like it is motorcycles? if so this car is an 01. so an 01 would still be a japan manifold? i thought i had read a old old thead of slaters where everyone decided that japans were only 04+???

you guys may have just made my weekend if you confirm the 01 is a japan (or at least an improvement) without me having to pull it off the car, lol.

thanks for the info guys, and im not trying to doubt you all. but im the kind of person that needs a lot of reassurance. that and the fact that i dont want to pull the mani off this car for nothing, lol.

i could have swore i found an old post of slaters where everyone agreed that japan mani was 04+, but you guys say 01+ should be it? specifically im need to know if the 01 V70T5 would have it. thank you all so much!

I think any turbo (5 cyl) car will be the Japan manifold after 2000. Bring a flashlight and mirror before removing. You ought to be able to see the casting marks (large seams) on the early style. The Japan won't have those.

Agreed.

But what you want to avoid, the "old" exhaust manifold, is easily identified by looking at the flange/collector area where it mates to the turbo. If the turbo is off, look into the manifold and confirm that the runners meet inside of the manifold instead of right at the flange. (Hope I didn't make it more confusing)
