Hussein's 1998 V70 Xr : The Force Awakens

Recommended Posts

Finally running. Took a quick 1-2-3 pull over the mountain - feels great. Have to re check fluids in the AM. Had a slight seep on the turbo drain tube - I must have stress cracked it with the re-working I had to do when I re-clocked the CHRA. Cleaned it thoroughly & used a little epoxy in the corrugations where the oil was seeping. It'll do for now, I may need to make a new one at some point if it continues to show any signs of seepage.

Changed both the wheel arch liners for virginal ones - set them up on top of the fender lip & used a heat gun to massage the lip.

Just have to run in the clutch before I beat on it too hard.

How is clutch engagement compared to the spec setup?

Feels like stock compared to the Spec. No chatter on take-up, very smooth indeed, even with the unsprung disc.

What's interesting with the turbo is that it doesn't have that ball-bearing noise that was present from the start with the original unit. Doesn't spin on as long - can't hear it in the intake or exhaust after shutdown either.

That's a great idea, I was just thinking this weekend I need to do something, 235's @ 38et gets a little close sometimes. What did you use to roll them? Any pix? I'm thinking of just doing it on a really hot day when the car's been sitting in the sun.

The fender lip I rolled with a piece of wooden broom handle rolled between the tire & lip. The arch liners I cut off the triangular locating tabs & set the lip inside the fender lip, instead of outside/below and used a heat gun to massage it.

Thanks for the tip! So you just use the heat on the liners not the paint? I've used a wooden bat (with no heat) on my 914 to roll the rear fenders for wider tires, but all I have now is an aluminum bat... :(

Are you running synthetic now H?

I still hear mine spinning for some time after shut down. The big alu intake pipe accentuates it for sure since I just have the open filter.

Yes, Synthetic.

Don't say that - now I have to call & verify they didn't fuck me on this. It did still spin just not the way the other did.

Sounds like it's time to ditch TT

Not yet. I'd like to see 500 wheel first

Yeah whatever happened to VEMS

I have it all ready to install, ECU built into M4.4 case, etc. Not gonna swap over until I'm good & ready.

My holset spins for about 3 sec after turning it off. A GT3076R spins for what seems to be 30sec after turning it off. Hopefully it still "wearing" in, if that even exists on BB.
