To clariufy about which green connector is for the Dolbly center channel speaker.
It's a two wire connection to the small green connector on the back of the SC-900/901.
This small green connector is a 5 pin, vertically oriented connector with center channel
speaker connections on pins 4 and 5.

Attached File  Dolby Center Conn.jpg   144.05K   41 downloads
Attached File  SC-901 rear - while connected.jpg   217.52K   42 downloads
Pin 4 = white (-)
Pin 5 = Blue (+)

Here's the P/N for the factory cable from the HU to the Center:

Attached File  Dolby Center Conn Cable.jpg   85.88K   39 downloads
The 1 x 25w amp for the center is part of the Dolby module,
so, if that module isn't plugged in, it doesn't work.

None of the other speakers in an SC-900/901 system are connected
to the HU. They all get power their from the external amp.

CAREFUL!
When buying, try and get a car that was rear-ended, as these get tweaked when there's been a hard front end crash...

Think I'm going for the Dolby dash - there's enough light/dark tan in my car to get away with it. I mocked up a center channel (to check my Dolby Processor/901 was actually working) this am with a Volvo rear door speaker and the difference is more than worthwhile, center stage improves noticeably.

The center channel cable I have comes in 2 sections - the 5-pin green plug part is 5) blue/white 4)white 3)brown 2)N/C 1)black but the brown & black have been cut - anyone know what these were for? There's a black 2-pin snap connector half way along for the blue/white & white, and a white volvo speaker connector at the end. I didn't check phasing.

I understand there are two revs of the Nokia center channel driver - one with a paper cone, one with a plastic or plasticized cone. I've read they tended to degrade in sunlight, so I'm guessing the second was an improved model. Anyone know anything about this, especially of any sonic differences?

Speaking of which, do you know which connectors does the center speaker goes to on the SC-901?

I would like to rig up some sort of center channel, but don't know where the wires would go into the SC-901. I know its not connected to the stock outboard amp nor the Dolby unit. But which connector and pin does it go to?
I've got a pioneer center channel on the way but I've caved in and am going for the dash. If you want it, for experimentation or something, you can have it for what I paid for it ($30 shipped, memory fails :) )

No stock system here - Boston RC620's up front, FX6's for the rear, MB Quart 5 channel amp under the floor & Boston G5 sub with passive radiator in the back. But...I have a thing about keeping it looking stock!
If I can shoehorn a boston coaxial under that speaker cover, I will.

Looked under there yet? It is tight...
You've got maybe an inch of depth, tops.
Looks like this:
Attached File  Center channel side view - OEM.jpg   115.62K   48 downloads
The center AC duct is right there.
Honestly, the OEM driver is a decent two way.
For a center channel, it handles mids and highs fine.
This is my old one, with a snapped off voice coil magnet:

The new version comes with a bolt through the magnet.
I'm guessin' I wasn't the first person with this problem...

I'm pulling mine to inspect and possibly paint all of the dash speaker grills charcoal to match some other interior pieces. Where is the best spot to pry away the dolby speaker cover? Having trouble removing and don't want to F it up.

It does, and it's 4 pin - you'll need to source an original cable I think. I couldn't find a matching connector. BTW, does anyone know what the other two brown and black wires do? Mine were cut when I bought it.

EDIT It's a 5 pin cable, mine has 4 wires connected, pin 2 is N/C

Has anyone done this? I have a 3990 dash and apparently center speaker dash tops don't come in this color. So I go two-tone ( <_< ) or hack up another dash...

+1, looks like an after thought. They could easily have molded the grille to the curve of the dash for a more integrated look.

Well, pulled the center grill to inspect the speaker, ended up breaking the grill, oops. Did discover that my speaker was shot, the top magnet had silver dust all over the place and was totally disconnected from the speaker cone. Now, here is the question, my old beige speaker grill was badly discolored. I looked online and found three different colors, beige, gray, and granite. I want to replace all dash speaker grills with a darker color, will the granite or gray work better with a beige dash? Anyone have pics of the difference between gray labeled interior parts and granite colored? would be helpful. Also found replacement original speakers with the new style cone for $87 online. I believe the speaker grill was $35-40 a piece depending on the color.

Where did you find these? Would be worth knowing in the future. Did you have the paper or newer plasticized speaker? I've just paid to become part of the CCC (center channel club), not to mention the OBIGTROMD (Oh Bugger I've Got To Rip Out My Dash) gang and I'd like to have the info at my fingertips.

Thanks for the pics. That helps clarify things.

As for the parts, I found them at Tasca Volvo

center channel speaker pn: 9472027 superseded by part number 8622157

as for the speaker grill, they are easiest to find if you look for 1999 C70 parts, look under the collision section, click instrument panel, then sound system, speaker grill, dash center, etc
