I may be getting a set of C70 jewel headlights soon and I want to paint the insides black like I have on my current headlights. The only problem I had when painting was that I couldn't mask off the reflective portion of the lights with tape, since the metallic paint would come off with the tape. I had to paint it with a brush which didn't give the best results, but you can't tell since the stock lenses aren't see-through.

Since the jewel headlights are clear, I want a flawless job, and I don't think doing it by brush would be best. Does anyone know how to mask off the headlights so as not to remove any of that reflective paint?

The Jewels will come apart and you can paint the bezel separately.....just don't touch the inside of the headlight lens.

if you thin out the paint you wont get brush strokes if thats what youre worried about.

I used spray paint, sprayed into a little tub. The paint went on with a brush very well with no strokes, just my lines weren't the cleanest. My hand is pretty shakey.

Oh okay, gotcha. When I did mine on my 850, I was able to "pre-tack" the masking tape by running on my shirt to make it a little less stickey. Then I put it on the bucket and still brushed it on. Gave a super clean line and didn't peel the silver off. I am not saying it will DEFINATELY work, but its up to you. I would hate to see a new set of jewels jacked.

Interesting. Does it mask off enough to create a clean line when painted?

please leave them how they are. The euro guy with a saffron c painted his black and it totally takes away from the look.
