I'm sure I should already know this, but I was wondering how I go about changing/lubricating my manual transmission... Is there a place to fill it? Is there a dipstick? Does it even exist?! I'm clueless here, but I'm sure my standard transmission HAS to have some kind of oil that I should change... thanks for your help.

There is no dip stick only fill and drain plugs. The level is correct when it starts coming out the fill hole. The oil used in the manual transmission is 5W30 synthetic motor oil.

On my 99 V70 there are no recommendations for changing the M/T fluid. Kind of odd - but I can't even find a spot for a dipstick/drain/add.

There is no dip stick for the manuals. There is no listed change interval, however I've found that 100K is a good time to change the oil. Take off the front left, (drivers in the USA) tire and you should be able to find the drain and fill plugs, I think the are 22mm.

Be sure you're able to loosen the fill plug before you drain the oil.

yeah, is 5w30 the only oil to put in the transmission? anything else? I want to make shifts as smooth as possible, my 5 speed has been a little stiff lately. Is there anything else I could do to soften shifts up a little?

If I recall right, 75W-90 is what I put in my toploader 4 speed for my 65 'stang.

Newer trannies seem to like the lighter fluid. Probably didn't hurt anything but it flows like sludge compared to the 5W-30 recommended.

I'd change it out at the first opportunity. But it is probably no worse for the wear.

I have no Idea what running the wrong weight oil will do, if you are sure thats whats in there, just change it.

My tires don't rub.
