I bent a rod coming on the highway while giving it hell. Dumbass move on my part. Im pretty sure im going to rebuild it and put it back on the road. Ive been searching the forums on all past builds but didnt see to many people rebuilding a lpt block. I read that the internals are the same except for the higher compression. After getting it rebuilt I plan on getting a bigger turbo when time is right and if everything works out.

So my question is will the stock lpt block withstand more boost. I plan on getting forged rods and oem pistons( not sure which ones though).
After all is done Id like to achieve around 300whp.

Also any recommendations on rod length and piston size.

My question is.... are you 100 Positive you bent a rod? 17 PSI Tune on a GLT?

You can bend a rod on a stock tune with stock boost. It is not all that surprising or impossible for him to bend a rod.
Engine build is still up for sale PM me for details.

He has a 16t, R manifold, and tune on a LPT. I wouldnt be surprised. I did it with less lol.

I think you should build the motor. I'd like to see someone on VS built a LPT motor with forged rods.

I'm pretty sure you can handle 300whp on the stock LPT motor, but to turn fact from fiction when I dyno I'll have a sheet to show.

I'm running the 19t (granted a bit scared right now due to overdoing it with the WG actuator, cbv, etc) but before was running a similar setup with a 16T. Only difference was I have stock injectors and stock manifold.

Just make sure your waste gate is set down very conservative, and be careful with CBV shims (none for me). I ran the 16T for like 6 months until just recently switching to the 19T.

With a rebuilt engine I'd go with a big turbo though, 300whp would be easy with a garrett.

Yea 100 percent sure. Loud knocking sound that gets faster when throttled. It was fun while it lasted. I was reading about lowering the compression ratio by getting different pistons. Would that be a good idea or just get the stock ones with the beefed up rods.

Can anyone give me LG swedens email so i get some shiny engine parts.

If I had it to do over, I'd build an LPT motor instead of the HPT  The LPT is much more torquey - feels better in the low end, for sure. I can't speak on limits, but I don't see 300WHP killing the motor, it would of course all depend on the quality of the tune. I'd recommend TurboTuner.

Thank you sir. Just shot them an email.

I eventually want to get the TT ecu and a 5 speed swap and of course a bigger snail. But for right now I just want it back on the road.

If you guys have any more suggestions let me hear them. Im not going crazy on the build but anything reasonable let me know.

If that were the case, you would have seen a ton of recalls for engine replacements on Volvo's tab in the 1990's. I think you're over exaggerating just a smidge. I see an awful lot of stock 850's on the road, and I haven't seen one break down in front of me or shoot a rod out of the block at that oh-so-extreme 7.x psi boost pressure. lol.

I'm flogging a bone-stock 200k mile car with a questionable past at the moment. Tell you what...I'll PayPal you $100 when I bend a rod, OK?

Delaware 96R on here put a rod through his 80k mile block and his 850R was 100% stock.

Well, if it happened to 1 person, then CERTAINLY there are millions more! I mean, I'm sure an enthusiast like him drove his 'R' model as gently as my grandmother drives, too! I guess all the 200k mile cars are just ticking time bombs! ;)

With forged rods you'll be able to hold 300whp with a bit more piece of mind, but I think the thing to consider now is really what caused the rod to break in the first place. With stronger rods you will have more room for error, but even in that scenario if there's something wrong and you go the same route you may run into this problem again.

I was just saying it was possible on a stock car, I didn't say it happened to 1 in 3 volvos.
Tons of people on here have bent rods before, including myself.

That's OK. Knowing my luck, I'll probably get in my car later tonight and it will seize on me out of nowhere. ;) But yeah...Volvospeed is pretty much the only place on the planet where people make Volvos sound UN-reliable. If you don't thrash your car, and if you keep your car in proper tune, a rod isn't going to just bend out of the blue. B)

Once again, you suck at reading. All boost3237 said was that you CAN bend a rod with stock boost and stock rods.
