Hi fellas, I have a few trick projects involving a few nice parts aligned for this storage season... I'm storing the beast on Haloween night like every year, so these projects and install will start in a mater of days. I'm simply waiting on delivery of a few parts...

Yesterday I fabed up another intercooler bracket because the one I had originaly made decided to snap... I make my brakets out of aluminium and simply bend and cut the metal until it reaches it's desired shape. A bracket like this necessitates an hour or 2 of work (including all the removal and re instalment of parts to access the intercooler) and very basic handtools. Material used is some simple Alu bar you can find at any hardwear store.

Removed the bumper and set the intercooler to it's proper height for new bracket.

old backet was made out of .75 inch 1/8 thick bar while the new one is made with 1.50inch wide 1/8th thick bar

Real men use Hand tools!! just kiding, i just don't happen to have a band saw. <_<

Looks good.

The "bit of bending" picture looks like a page out of an I Spy book.

Thanks man, I just love the blacked out look of your V70, I wish it was that easy to black out my car, haha.

I get a lot of comments about my S80, mostly because a lot of people that mod them dont do a lot of cosmetics which I have.

thanks, hows the race car doing? I'd love to see some pics of the engine bay and get some details on that beast! Get some ideas from a purpose built machine. :)

Those books where each page is just a clutter of items and you have to find certain objects. I saw a pair and a half of shoes, and there's just so many things in the picture....and I'm gonna stop talking now..... ;)

Race car is currently under construction for the winter rebuild. There are some photos on the website ( http://www.tkimotorsport.com/ ) for you to get an idea. Would like to make it to Mosport or Mont Tremblant for 2010 season, but we will see how the schedule plans out.

Ok so I finally received one of the first parts I was waiting for, here is the resoning behind it. As you know, P2s have the lousiest power steering tanks because they leak like a biotch around the cap and the seem... I was tired of it and decided to do something about it, I bought this tric Moroso Power Steering tank, it's a drop in replacement for various fords like explorers, recent mustangs and a few more, so... you guessed it, it's not a drop in for P2s

That said this will require a small insision in the ECU/TCM box, in my case this is a non issue because 1 of the 2 slots in this box is empty since I have a M56 5 speed. I will chop a cube on the side of the box and fabricate a small wall to close the ECU box around the side of the new PS tank. A bracket will be made to hold the new tank in place, more on that when I start the install sometime next week.

Dimensions of the new tank is quite similar to the OEM tank as the stocker is about 2.125 x 7 inches and about 3 inches high while the moroso unit is 3x3 and 4 and 1/4 inches high. the inlet and outlet tips for the hoses are exactlly the same dimension (10mm and 20mm respectivly) and although the small tip is o the under side of the tank, the stock tank has a hose inside the tank that feeds from the bottom, so it's the same diffrence. :) The capacity of the moroso unit is aprox 100ml (more precision when i remove the stocker and measure the exact capacities of both) more than the stocker wich will alow abit more fluid in the system for better (slightly) cooling/heat dissipation.

The Anodized aluminium cap is solid as a rock and the seal is absolutly tight, pressure is released through a minuscule hole on the top of the unit to allow proper fluid expantion/contraction.

Rational beind this mod is listed bellow in order of interest

1- no more leaks on the ECU/TCM box
2- better heat dissipation
3- underhood bling
4- If this works out great; Giving you fellas an option if you have the same problem other than buying a new OEM tank and seeing it piss everywhere in a mater of months.

A few pics of th tank and comparison shots in the engine bay to give you an idea of the proportions and look.

JVC, you gave me some inspiration the other day, you were saying about how it was easier for me to balck out my car, since it's black... made me think how cool it would be if it was murdered out... I'm thinking of getting some rims in the next few months, but I want the polished look, so in the name of murdering, I decided to paint my hub caps since I'm on storage seetlies right now... just fpor I crapped my pants and I love how it feels and giglles, I went through my hub cap collection today and took the 4 that had the worst brake dust staines, cleaned them thoroghly and spraid them... I'm getting the car waxed wedensday for storage, I'll snap a few pics with the caps just for you ;)

sorry for the dirty basement... <_<

Also regarding the tank, the flow of the fluid will hopefully be slightly improved in this unit witch is another plus, somtimes at the track I would catch up behind the PS and it would feel like I did not have any, hopefully this will help improve that issue, really interested in seeing the results once it's installed...

more to come this week.

Cool. We kept blowing up factory power steering reservoirs so we installed a power steering cooler mounted on the top of the metal bumper frame. A team in Canada with an S60 Challenge did the same thing. No issues since.

If you anneal the aluminum before you bend the bracket, it will not experience such a loss in strength and will be less likely to snap.

Agreed, althoug it snaped at a spot where there were no bends, it snaped at the bolt hole because the hole was quite big compared to the whidth of the bracket. I guess there was simply not enough material and after 2 years of vibration and bumps, it gave away.
