Hello,
I have been working on replacing the burnt out lights in the switches in my dash board. Does any one know if the heated seats switches are illumincated? If so, do you need to pull the console apart to get at them or do they pop out just like the switches in the dashboard?
Is the headlight switch illumination bulb easy take apart and replace? Would the procedures be similar to the other dashboard switches?
Thanks again for any help,
EdGy

Yeah, the heated seat switches are supposed to be lit. They should just pop out of the top. But here's the problem: for the '93 850s, Volvo decided when they were making it to just solder the bulbs into place in the switch. So, you'll have to desolder the one in there and solder a new one in place. Personally, I plan to replace them with LEDs sometime. There's a big thing about replacing those blubs as a sticky in the cosmetics section.
As for the headlight switch bulb, if you're talking about the one that goes on once you have turned the dial to turn on the headlights, that one is easily replaceable. Just pull out the whole switch, and you'll see the little bulb holder in the back. Just pull the whole thing out, put a new bulb in, and shove the whole thing back in.

Ed,
Generally speaking, any switch that has a little picture window of the function should be lit - including the heated seat switches. They pop straight out but sometimes not easily.
Check at the top of this forum, on a pinned thread, "user supplied knowledge" for a write-up on relighting the switches.

Thanks for all your responses. I was able to replace two of the bulbs already using those instructiions.
Anyone have a suggestion on what to use to clean the electrical molex plugs and connectors before putting it all back together. The service manual suggests spraying antirust spray. I find the molex plugs are extremely hard to remove anything to make them go one/off more smoothly would be great.
TIA,
EdGy

I'd use an electrical contact cleaner... anything that doesn't leave a residue should work.. like some brands/types of brakecleaner...

I just pulled the dashboard dimmer switch out to replace the bulb inside and I can't seem to figure out if where the bulb is. . According to the wiring diagram, there is supposed to be a light in that switch. Does anyone know how to get at that bulb?
Thanks again for your Help,

You've probably got to pry open the whole thing and do some stuff inside. Something I've been contemplating as I would like to put LEDs in my switches and everything.
Anyone have experience opening the dimmer switch?

Well I pulled off the front slider part. There doesn't seem to be any translucent part to allow light to pass thru. I would assume you could see the bulb looking into the front of the switch. I haven't been able to pull of the back part yet either.

Just got the whole dimmer switch apart. There is no bulbs in there at all so the mystery is solved. I have a few photos of its innards .
