Here are a few pics of the process. From the "Post Preview" it doesn't look like they will be displayed in the correct order, but that shouldn't be an issue, all of the info is there.

Well the V70 doesn't have it's evap cannister behind the wheel well like so many other posts I have seen. It's above the rear subframe that requires you to lower the exhaust system to get at it. I saw on post where the guy smeared RTV silicon over the crack and got it to pass inspection. I almost did this, but got a new hose from the dealer ($29) and installed it a few days ago so I could pass the state inspection.

undo the exhaust hooks, take off the 2 plastic nuts off the heatshield so it comes down a bit, loosen the rear suspension on each side 1-1 1/2" (1 big bolt each side). Get a die grinder with a carbide bit or something that cuts plastic/metal nice. Cut off that lip on the charcoal canister right flush with the actual box. Cut the clamps with the same bit and die grinder. Take hose off, put new hose on with gear clamps. Done! Generally takes 10 minutes.
edit: Or if you don't want to spend money, just cut down the lip on the charcoal canister, get the clamp off, cut the hose where its split and put back on with a gear clamp -- that's what ive done on both my cars!

Your still dropping the exhaust system, doesn't sound like grinding off the edges of the evap cannister saves that much time, maybe 5 min tops.

Hello, Many thanks for the information and pics. I had my Right rear wheel and liner off today and couldn't see anything. What I did do was attach a piece of garden hose to the odd black plastic cylindrical thing which rides high on the filler neck. When I blew into it I could hear air escaping right in the area which your photos focus on. My only hope is that the "J" hose is the only split one. If more are split I'll have to go fishing around some more. Aside from the 2 cross bars and rear muffler/shield itself, are there other places where the exhaust system should be loosened? I guess it doesn't have to come down too much. Kira

Hello, I had to thank JimLev1 for his pics and want to thank you too. I like the idea of neatly cutting away the "rolled crimp" of the canister in order to get to the hose clamps but WOW, what a precise cut you'd have to make. One little bit too deep and you're into the damn box-THEN you'd have a leak on your hands! I wanted to ask you, which are the big bolts you'd loosen to lower the rear suspension 1.5"? Thanks again Kira

Could someone supply me the partnumber for the J-hose? I need to replace the one on a 2001 XC70 2.4T
