If your adapter is no longer under warranty you could route the audio signal through the auxiliary input(disc 6 instead of 5). This is an RCA style connection, but those style adapters are cheap everywhere. Downside you would lose any direct control/playlist from HU controls, but you would gain a video out from the iPod. Perhaps add a secondary screen somewhere.

Thought about this a bit more. If the disc 6 aux-in was still functional then perhaps the iPod portion is also still functional. Replace the cable coming from the adapter to the iPod. Might as well upgrade to a charging cable for the 2nd Gen Touch and 3GS phone. This is only if the radio swap did not help.
