I've searched the forums and I haven't found any definitive answer about this. Which is better, Cat back or Turbo back?

I have the EST Cat Back on my car now, but to be honest I am really disappointed with it. Sounds just like stock and I don't notice any performance increase at all.

So I'd like to know what I should go with.

1) Turbo back or Cat back; and
2) Which brand?

Thanks for the help, this is killing me...

Also, if someone wants the EST exhaust I can ship it wherever.

SOLD

The downpipe is a larger restriction. You will see more gains from a turbo-back exhaust. If you go full 3", you will definately hear/feel a difference. Emphasis on the "hear"

So If I have a 2.5" exhaust but a 3" DP I'll be able to feel a difference?

Where in Ontario are you?

I have a Turbo back exhaust on my car if you want to check it out. I'm in Toronto.
Mine is actually louder than I would like.

The Downpipe is key.

Yep. I had that on my old 19T setup. 3" dp to 2.5" catback

You're not going to notice it as much as a chip or anything, but you should notice it more than with just a cat-back.

I'm in Ottawa, little far just to hear the exhaust :P, thanks though!

Right, so I'm thinking I just need to get myself a 3" DP and hopefully that will solve my problems. That and my current DP (flex pipe) is ripped...the 3" DP will replace that and fix everything!!!! :D...

Yep. Little bit too far. I am actually from Ottawa originaly. I'll be up for Xmas. :D

There are 3 types of turbo outlets so make sure you get the right one for your turbo. ( Conical / Straight / Angled )

If you want a really easy bolt on then the EST downpipe might be the best. OBX will be the cheapest but will require more work.

I don't want to spend a tonne of money, I just bought a house and I'm getting married in the summer so I have to save up for a lot of stuff. I've heard good things about OBX so I'll probably end up with that. I don't know if it's straight, angled, or conical, its a 1997 volvo 850 R. Maybe they all came a certain way? I don't know.

Where abouts are you from in Ottawa? I"m still at my parents place in North Gower.

97's have a straight flange turbine housing. Hit up the FS section, you might just find a downpipe for it

Your car isn't a manual transmission is it?

I am originally from the Glebe but most of my family is in Orleans now.

There must be a starving student looking to get rid of a DP.

Be patient, you can get a good deal. EBAY too.
"Property is the fruit of labor...property is desirable...is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built." - Abe Lincoln

No, it's automatic...had to buy a car that my fiancé can drive too. I'll keep looking on eBay and FS section. eBay is showing 3" DP 2.5" turbo back exhaust OBX for about $449. If it's only another $200 for the 2.5" exhaust then I'll sell the EST I have now and buy the full OBX for $449.

You are going to pay a lot of shipping on the OBX. I think mine was about $600 CAN once it was here. Still not that bad though.

If you are down to do the work it isn't that hard to swap the exhaust housing on the turbo to an angled one.
