Hello guys. Do you think it would be possible to add this unit with a new (updated) software, to my NA S70 '98 ? Thank you.

Absolutely no idea..why not install it and see what happens?

(p.s. - might want to clean it first...)

Once has been successfully cleaned, the display looks ok.

The rear cover is missing and I have to order one.

I don't recall this as a US option on the S70. Do you know who made if for Volvo? Maps would be much out of date for this unless there is an update.

Or are there even US maps if not an option here? But yeah, if you only have the screen unit, that's a bit like having just a computer monitor - you're a long way from having a computer.

Replace the display with a touchscreen and hook it up to a car pc. So much potential here, make it happen.

Thank's Jesus, that's really an awesome idea you've had with the CarPC, but the frame is cut already to fit my old touch-screen Navigon PNA 7000.

P.S. - The original RTI system is MELCO 8096 produced by Mitsubishi Electric.

looks like it mounts where the dolby digital option cars center speakers go. So you'd need an upper dash with a center speaker and just remove the center speaker cover to insert that unit. I'd totally like to get my hands on that for my car PC project. I'd use it to display digital gauges/datalogs/diagnostics and then a dedicated carpc screen in the double din.

My S70 came from factory with the Dolby-Digital system.
A CarPC project with a unit like this would be a great idea. Personally, I got this display from a friend, who found it in his garage in Romania. I hope you find one too. Thanks for your replay. Dragos.

I'd totally sacrifice the center speaker to install that screen for a carpc project. Looks like I need to find a friend in europe

I have a screen just like that on my S70 waiting for me to fiddle around with it (transplant a composite video or vga screen there).

BTW how did you split the screen to change it?

Forgot to say that the objective is to put a carpc displaying info on it.

The gray cover slides up. Look at these pictures, you can clearly see the tabs that hold the cover in place. (two in the center and two outwards)
