So, I got a ball joint going out on me and am thinking of repairing said ball joint. But ever since I first saw the 93-early 94 type a-arm, I've thought about putting those on my newer car. Are there any drawbacks to this? Are they as strong or stronger? Do they actually fit? Does anyone here have experience with this? Just thought it would be easier down the road and thought maybe the early ones might be a bit lighter. They are aluminum, aren't they? So, any opinions/comments would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I still don't have blinkers! I guess I will be going to the Volvo place to see if they can figure it out...

Last but not least, does anybody have a couple of them lying around?

Seems like there was some issue with those A-arms but I don't remember what it was... but I'd research more before doing it.

I'll send you a hazard switch to try before you pay a mechanic... Heck I've a spare lcu as well.

Dealership will charge insane amounts for either.

That sounds like a plan. I was about to buy a hazard switch off of ebay today, but forgot about it and missed the end of the auction. Give me an email address and I'll send you some money for shipping. Let me know what you need.

My address is:

5108 Rockypoint Drive
Southaven, MS 38672

Thanks a lot Brother, let me know.

This is do-able, and the A-arms will bolt right in. The only downside is that they have been known to crack. They are definitely not as strong as the new design. If you are OK with that, then go for it.

+1

The earlier style A-Arms are a lot weaker then the later style. I have seen people crack them, bend them, and even break them in two. Just stick with the late model OEM ones.

Hmmm, prior to this post, never heard of this happening, so it may not be as commonly known as some would believe.
Also, Volvo still sells the ball-joint only for these last I checked the dealership - even fcp carries aftermarket for it. One would think this will not be so if there is danger in using this set-up in normal condition (read: not off-roading with your car, lol.

Fitment is exactly the same as the two-bolt 850/early non-awd x70 design.
The decision to switch is entirely the op's call.

How long have you had them, and what is your opinion? Are you happy with them? Any problems?

i've had mine on for about a year..roughly 10k miles. i'vehit potholes that destroyed rims, tires and, spring seats instantly but never fazed the control arm.

Bought a pair before from a member as a core.

Recently intalled snow tires, and for additional $20, I can have 4 wheel alignment.
So I thought, perfect time to do my suspension (fubar aftermarket a-arms after around 30k).

I ordered the fcp 271591 but got Uro and not Karlyn. This is after looking at Karlyn site and deciding it's good enough, instead of oem volvo which cost 4x as much. Is it worth bitching about, I mean Karlyn any good?

Taught me a lesson to call and make sure first before ordering, if surprises is not wanted. I could have gotten it from eeuroparts, assuming they don't do switcharoo.

If Uro suspension is like Deutch something brand, I'll be replacing this after 20-30k which translates to about 2 years of use. If this aluminum with removable bj can be replaced without removing anything (hopefully other than endlinks which is 'loaded'), then it would be ok but I really hope for these to last at least 50k.
