ok well i have never installed an A/f gauge. i was assuming it was going to be simple like the boost gauge was and just tap into existing stuff. but a buddy of mine said that depending on my o2 sensor i might have to get a new bung put in and get another o2 just for the gauge? i know a lot of you guys have added the a/f so im sure someone will be able to explain to me what i need to do.

thanks.

a good A/F meter needs a wideband o2 sensor. our cars use narrow band so yes, you need to weld another bung and get a wideband sensor

The kind of A/F gauges that tap into the stock O2 sensors are useless on our cars. When in boost, if it displays anything but "rich", something is terribly and horribly wrong. It's useless outside of a lightshow most of the time.

A wideband gauge (and wideband sensor that has to go into your downpipe) like the AEM uego or Innovate LC-1 would actually be useful if you're tuning your car.

exactly what my buddy told me, just didn't explain wide band and narrow band. so how much is the windeband sensor?

Ah, yeah. Narrow band can basically only read rich, stoich or lean. Widebands will return an actual Air/Fuel ratio, typically ranging from 9-10:1 up to 18-20:1, with stoich being around 14.7:1, depending on your gas (10% ethanol is closer to 14.1:1, E85 is around 9.8:1)

The sensor itself or sensor and gauge? The AEM unit (sensor and gauge) goes for just over $200 new, plus you need to weld in an O2 sensor bung into your downpipe near the front O2 sensor. Most exhaust shops should be able to do that for pretty cheap.

ok so now im confused now.....so what if i just get a narrow band gauge. then i don't need the extra work right? and also will the AEM unit work with other gauges. i have a brand new sunpro A/F but i guess it wont work with my o2. or do i have to get one from them?

What model? If it's a narrowband like I think it is, just return it. It's not worth the packaging it came in :(

Also, the AEM unit is a gauge: http://www.aempower....?CategoryID=342

Not to threadjack but this type of A/F gauge isn't going to do much? And if it does do anything it would most likely always be off?

That is the narrow band gauge, and no it doesn't provide you with much of any useful information.

I just picked up an Innovate LC-1 from ebay for $180 shipped brand new in box, which is a pretty good deal. Comes with everything you need, gauge, O2 sensor and all wiring, even a new bung to weld into the DP. Lots of people have been running this gauge for a while and they work great. Can't wait to install it tomorrow!

Stop looking for a cheap way out, there's no point, as Ozzi has already explained.

Get any quality wideband (AEM, Innovate, etc...) KIT, get a bung welded in your DP according to the instructions, and get it done.

Yup, dat be narrow.
"Property is the fruit of labor...property is desirable...is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built." - Abe Lincoln
