I have a 95 turbo with sc-811 premium HU with 6disc changer in the back.....

can I install aftermarket components in the front doors and run them off the stock headunit? The components are 4 ohms.

I will be disabling the stock tweeter if that means anything.

I think the stock speakers are 8ohm so in theory a 4ohm speaker should be fine.

The tweeters in the dash and the speakers in the door have seperate amp channels, The front doors are 4ohm, so you can replace them with components as you like and still keep proper load on the HU. You don't have to remove the front dash tweeters, but they likely will sound like crap compared to new components. odds are pretty good the magnets aren't there anymore ;)

the rear door speakers are 8ohm because they're in parallel with the rear d-pillar speakers, each rear channel still shows 4ohms to the HU.

eh no. It won't be fine... it may work, but long-term you're causing damage unless the amp is rated for the resistance you're running. Running an amp outside spec can be very bad, just ask the folks who ran Phase (flame) linears in the 70s...

Good to know.

So the volvo amps are rated at 8ohm?

4ohm, the rears run in parallel. 2 8ohms in parallel: (8x8)/(8+8) = 4ohms

ok, so just replacing the rear deck speakers with 4ohm speakers would be bad, correct?

as far as I have been researching, it seems like the HU is just a standard 4ohm headunit and it's just the speaker arrangement that is causing confusion. They wire the rears in parallel together to achieve a 4 ohm load... So a 4 ohm speaker in the rear deck with the rear door speakers disabled will show a 4 ohm load, but not when hooked in parallel :)

I figured out what I'm gonna do with mine, like my old car audio setups I'm gonna yank out all the rear deck and door speakers and run a-la 2 channel via front speakers with a single 10" in the back.

so no rear speakers at all, just the front components correct? I like that idea...

When I bring my 4 channel amp down from norcal ill hook that up to my front components and im gonna get some midbass drivers for the rear doors and unhook the rear deck speakers.

actually put some midbass in the rear deck and remove the door speakers.

I think your headunit allows you to crossover your rear speakers...try to cut the frequencies above like 60hz from the rear and see how it does for midbass

the rear deck is not very good for a speaker enclosure plus being so close to the subs the midbass will get distorted. plus i want the midbass right behind me and ive deadened the doors pretty good.
