I know this has been discussed a million billion times but everything is pretty general. I need to know EXACTLY what I need to install this DP.

I just picked up my 3" OBX straight flanged DP from the post office. (great wrapping job, omfg had to use an electric knife!) Don't worry, no damage to the DP...Anyways,

Since I am running the EST 2.5" catback system right now I still have the stock cat, 1997 850 R. I want to know if I HAVE to replace the stock cat with a high flow, or if I should just replace it anyways to gain some more performance (better sound too?)

IF I should change it for the performance which cat should I get? What do I need, 2.5" in/out or 3" in/out? This is really confusing for a noob, that's where you pros come in.

Thanks for the help guys, and sorry for starting another thread on High flow cats, etc. etc.

This pic is a pic of some of the more commonly recommended high flow cats. (same style, not necessarily brand)

Personally, I'd go with the 3" in/out spun cat shown, with a 3->2.5 reducer right after.

Ok, that's what I'll do. I'll just have to tell the exhaust shop toi put the 3"-2.5" reducer right after the cat. Thanks :)

+1

i agree completely , you def dont want to go without a cat (straightpipe) unless u r a diehard noise fan , thats what i have but i get a wickedly loud droning betweeen 2600 and 3400 rpms - a highflow is prolly ur best bet (like the one above) - but dont buy an ebay cheapo unless you know someone who has used the exact same one with success

I would get a cat. I don't think it sounds that much different and its worth it for the smell and the emissions.

Alright. Anyone know where I can get a cat like the one pictured above? Does magnaflow sell any like that or any other inexpensive but decent quality brand?

You can get a Vibrant metal core cat from SPI Performance in Markham for 140$ including taxes. They also have other Vibrant product there and I have found that they had some really competitive pricing for the GTA.

The EST catback with an OBX downpipe and without a cat is what I'm running right now. At first it was too quite for my tastes, don't get me wrong the tone was nice and deep but it really didn't sound any louder than stock. To make it a bit louder I took off my resonator and now it's the perfect sound, not too loud and not droney (?) at all. If you're worried about noise don't be afraid to run catless!
