So as some of you may have seen I was trying to get rid of the BNIB set of my Elbrus wheels. Well, that worked out last night. I met a very cool member who is from Ontario in Syracuse, NY and exchanged them for a set of 5 Volans. All the Volans are in exceptional shape for their age, 2 require light outer lip repair, faces perfect, straight, etc.

One is bent, which of course is currently f/s for a hell of a price! :D

This week Dave and I are going to repair a few portions of the outer lips on the 2 pictured in bags. It's not that bad but I figure they're off the car, why not?

Overall they are in very good shape, excellent faces and the 2 not needing any repair only have a mark here or there on the outer lips. But, of course I'll be happier when they're on the car.

This thread sucks now but stay tuned..........soon to come, 601 S70 on Volans..........I figure within the next 2 weeks or so.

It's gonna look so good. B)

I'm so glad you got these, I know that you have wanted a set for awhile, thin you will be pleased.

If for some reason you don't like them I vote you try some Titans next, but hpefully this will be the end of your wheel searching other then a set of winters to kick around if you have the space to store them that is.

And if you do ever get rid of them I call dibs  .

 Thanks man. I have wanted some for quite some time......they work so well on the S70s I think.

I have a feeling after a few months of rollin' on the same wheels I'll get the urge to try something new. We'll see....

The stock anthracite paint is in very very good condition so that's the color.

I think these will look really good with your red paint. Your car is lowered right?

I saw, I really like the way Volans work with the S70s.

I'm pretty confident it will turn out pretty good. I am not lowered, not yet. I did everything but suspension that I wanted to first and am now kind of in a rough spot.

So far suspension/steering wise I have replaced both Volvo lower control arms, Volvo outer tie rods, IPD HD endlinks, OEM Sachs spring seats, OEM Hutchinson rear shock mounts and Bilstein TC rear shocks.

I still need to get OEM strut mounts, Bilstein TC front struts and Eibach springs.......not sure when that's going to happen. There's nothing but time....I'll work it in eventually.

Dave and I busted ass on these today.......both are ready to have the outer lips painted.

We started off with a nice 80 grit scuff, followed by JB Weld where needed, followed by an 80 grit sanding, followed by a 400 grit sanding.

They turned out very very well, I am impressed. It did take a few hours of very careful and meticulous work. It will be worth it.....

I tried uploading pictures but Firefox is saving them in notepad format?

I'll keep trying but they are ready for paint as I said, both have reformed/repaired outer lips and are just about completely smoothed out with all scuffs/rash gone.....should be one sweet, smooth and even outcome!

We plan to paint the outer lips of the 2 that needed repair Friday.......I will get some pictures at that point.

Seeing the outcome of our work left us very pleased. There were alot of rash marks and a few semi deep scuffs, which as you can see are about gone. Close enough for my approval anyways.....and I'm pretty anal about things like this.

Here's what we started with, the damage shown was on either of these wheels that we are repairing.

Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Left one about done, Right w/ JB Weld applied before sanding....

Posted Image

Both lips reshaped and rebuilt!

Posted Image

The painting is planned for tomorrow, getting them on the car is rapidly approaching.....

They will all need a nice polishing once they're on the car, lots of caked on spots that easily come off w/ some Mothers and elbow grease.

The plan is to kick these around for a while, I'm thinking they'll turn out pretty damn good which will make me happy........when good weather returns I will most likely end up getting them powdercoated (A NORMAL/TASTEFUL COLOR) or selling/trading for something else.

Oh, and the paint we'll be using is Duplicolor Graphite wheel paint, damn close match.....followed by the same wheel paint series clear coat.

Thanks again, Dave, for all the help......I know it's a huge PITA and very much appreciate it!

Agreed.

Whoever decided wheels should be silver, or black, needs to be slapped.
