So I'm 99.9% sure I'll purchase "Khax's old" S70 T5A from Evan (username is echristodo.. not sure what he goes by @ VS) @ http://volvospeed.co...fully-serviced/

I realize this is a strange objective wanting to customize the car so much where there are S70 T5M's closer to what I want (aka the EXACT one my dad has), however I need a car soon, and I need a reliable one above all as I'll be doing cross country trips 2-3 times a year. These aren't necessarily goals, rather me trying to get an all-in-one idea of what type of money im looking to saving before diving into customization.

Firstly, I'll explain the reason I find this S70 to be the perfect fit.. It's within budget, and it's set to go cross country *now*. I have no additional budget past what I'd pay & would plan on upgrading the car later, with the fact that ill loose some $ in the long run in mind. I'd love to figure out a way to do a few things, and they are:

1) I'm looking @ EST's power packs and noticed that the 3 & 3+ package are only available for the M's.. wondering if there might be a way around this computer limitation and, if not, it would be just as functional w/ a manual swap. Although, the stage 2 is only 20HP less, I can't imagine I'll complain *too* much
2) I'd hope to do a black interior swap when I do an R swap (be it I happen to find an R parting out or via finding the parts over time... if at all realistic), how outrageous would this be? Maybe it'd just be easier/cheaper(?) to simply have the interior re-done...
3) How expensive is a quality paint job? I'd hope to go dark gray in time... I asked a few people I know and nobody knows a quality company... and the only thing that comes to mind is maaco
4) If I were to find a good used manual transmission how much would a quality M swap cost in total, parts labor and all? Assuming we find a totaled 98 M w/ say 150k miles on it (?)

Feel free to answer in stages :P thanks for the help

1. why buy EST power packs, just mod it on your own, especially if you're worried about a budget, you wont have the money to drop at once to pick up a whole package of shit and then install it/have someone else do it.

2. Define "R swap" V70R motor? V70R Interior? V70R bumper? or what? theres nothing such as an "R swap". People change things out with the same item off of an R but wtf is an "R Swap" unless you mean and R engine swap... at which point I wish you luck.

3. If you want dark gray... buy a dark gray car. Simple as that, a quality paint job will be a few grand. Especially if you plan on having them paint insides of doors, engine bay etc. otherwise people will open the hood/doors and see white shit everywhere and realize you took it to Maaco and gave them $300 and the House of Kolor paint you bought online and it will still look like garbage.

4. Have you ever tried the search button? click it, type in what you want, bam. or google search something then VolvoSpeed and most the time it will have your answer. There are TONS of guys doing manual swaps, where you source the parts is up to you, but there have been tons of kits for sale for $400-500 easy. If you pull it all yourself and do it all yourself from a JY car then it should be cheaper.

Put it this way. If your bought Dannys S70 T5M you'd still have spent less than your going to have to spend to do everything you want on Khax's car....

A good paint job will be worth more than the car.

You all keep saying it's a waste of money just buy another car... NO SHIT, I am fully aware that having to do a manual swap and the additional work on the car will waste some cash... but I am also aware that any performance modifications require a stage 0 car. I *could* buy an S70 T5 from some random person on craigslist or ebay, sure, but I have no guaruntee of reliability... I have a *MAXED* budget buying this S70 for the moment and need a reliable stock car for the coming few months, and will, in a few months, have another $7-$9k to put in to the car. Not to mention, I need the car in the next 2 wks, and I need it to be ready to drive out east, back west, and out east again in those first couple of months.

1) Because I don't know much about mechanics and find their setup to be my best option for an ecu tune, intake *and* exhaust that I know will not only perform well but will sound good & still pass emissions & inspections... I don't feel like modifying my car every year just to pass a test.

2) Sorry we don't use the same terminology, holy shit. I would *like* to find at least the dash & panels and bumpers, but would, if lucky enough, try to find a parting-out car w/ a charcoal interior and completely swap the interiors... but im willing to / expect to do this over time.

3) I figured this would be expensive and isn't necessarily mandatory... Simple question of how much it would cost, and obviously too much - thx.

4) Funny thing is I was a part of the team that *programmed* the very search button you're talking about, so yes, I used the search button, and was looking for a secondary direct answer.

No i didn't...its a waste of money to buy a car in the color you dont want. It will easily cost 4k on the low end to get a good repaint....so good luck with having a dark silver car with white door jams Posted Image

I love how you still get mad at me for making threads... My apologies, I'll work on condensing topics. Each thread has been a completely different question about a completely different car, wouldn't have made any sense for me to post some questions on this S70 in my V70R AWD question thread or my 98 GLT-specific questions.

I understand that it's a waste of money, and thats *exactly* why I asked what a quality job would cost... If it was $1k, I'd have considered it down the road... but obviously it'd be more than that for a quality job. I do not in any way plan to skimp on anything when it comes to quality, be it directly related to price or not. It's only a question, and obviously the answer wasn't what I had assumed, thanks for setting me straight :)

If you want to do a manual swap talk to Justin (Chilled Man) last I heard his going rate was ~$1000 ish. You would have to supply the parts and posts here and on SS seem to show $1000-1500 depending on the components (includes clutch or not) and the age of said components.

just get justins c70 and call it a day. man youve been posting about getting all these cars.. jus get one already...

Well, if you stripped the car down and did all the body work/ smooth and dent pulling I'd put the job at 3k, if you have someone else yank the motor, pull the moldings ect ect then I'd say 7k for it too look factory.

Justin's C70 is in PA and I won't be going back east for over 4 wks... doubt it'll stick around that long.

Yes. And his name is Evan. Although we can not predict the future we fix every problem we see when we are prepping a car for sale.

If you want the R interior, your best bet is to get a R. Even if you plan on swapping unless you get a V70 you'll never get the Match. Rear seats in a S and a V are different so you'd have to go custom on the back seat.

It would be cheaper for you to get a car in the color you want with the interior color you want. Like a Gray S70 with Black Interior, then if you wanted R door panels you could easily add those, and you are not re doing the entire interior.

If you find a car you want and can afford you should go for it if the costs work out. you could easily fly out and drive it back, or have the car shipped to you.

I purchased my Saff online, and had it shipped over from MA to MN.
I have a friend who purchased a 95 850 years ago from a seller in TX and flew down and drove it back. If you need a car right now and can't wait, buy a $1,000 wonder car of craigs list. I got a 95 STS last year for $1000 and put almost 30000 miles on it, then traded it off this year for exactly what i paid for it.

Plus do you REALLY want khax's is car? i mean Really?

(not saying anything about the work put into it by Danny and Evan,. I'm sure it's quality work.... just saying the previous owner was Khax... so.....)

And they're great to stick a mattress in the back and cross country trip as I had desired anyway... but finding a 98 V70 T5 or R out west is proving impossible... not that I plan to have a family soon
