Recommended Posts

Once the sale goes through and if Saab really does die off, you've got to go get the site re-appraised

I should also add that I encourage all of you to contact Ford and express your displeasure.

Cheers,

Madman of the People

I'm glad Ford sold them. Maybe, just maybe, this will be an opportunity for Volvo to become a higher end brand. None of us would buy a Geely luxury-mobile, so maybe Geely will seize the opportunity to build a luxury brand...it's not like Volvo would be competing with Geely's sector of the market.

Or, after reading Che's post, perhaps we'll see a turn towards performance. Once again, not like that'll affect our poor asses.

Ford and Volvo have been loosing their asses. Its nice to say things like that, but reality and theory are not the same. Heard from a few people who work fairly high up production level that it seems like the Chinese are either going to try and bust the unions or move productions. Not that I believe scuttlebutt but I would not want to be working for Volvo right now. In other news this could be great news for performance and aftermarket.

Doesn't all of the talk about the loose China copyright laws scare you? That's really what bothers me.

Do you even understand what you are talking about here? Face value this all could be good news. As for not buying another Volvo, I would never buy a second Folvo. Especially when they try to compare Volvo to a BMW or benz. With that said though I spend ~100k every 4-5 years on vehicles and would have no problem buying a "luxury" Chinese volvo despite all the negative stereotypes IF the quality and QCQA were there to honestly elevate it to the status of say a higher end european car. Short term though I doubt there will be any change at all. Same dealers, same techs, and parts take years to purge through.

90 percent of people here will never buy a new Volvo so I've never taken much stock in the company.

Winner!

People here bitch about Volvo Corp. as much as t-bricks bitch about anything FWD. Even if BMW bought Volvo, most here would still never buy a new one.

The cars won't be made in China because the factories aren't going to be magically teleported to China from Europe. If production does move, it will take years.

Agreed. I'm not very interested in new Volvos, and it'll take a good while before anything really changes from the consumer's point of view

Based on the picture, Geely more or less rips off everything out there?

i was rooting for BMW to get them, although i understand that was probably unrealistic anyways.

My question is this: Even for those of us who don't buy new volvo's...the current parts we buy from stealerships come from Volvo. We already saw that the new brake pads come from india correct? What next? Or better yet: Will they discontinue selling products for our cars and we'll be forced to the junkyards forevermore? I was told by some RWD people at a VCOA meet they still sell tons of the old parts for those who restore them etc etc...would this change? Under ford it didn't seem like an issue.

Like stated above, i'd never buy one after 98 myself. However, i need parts and if quality in said parts drop...well...then whats the point to the volvo? Other then that i wouldn't care hahah...
