Getting ready to put my Columbas back on for the spring and wanted to give them a freshen-up paint job. I painted them a few years ago in Volvo White Slver (935?) and they came out great. Paint was expensive though - must have spent around $15/can which included clear lacquer but the cans are only 4 oz. Anybody use the wurth wheel paint?

http://www.autopia-c...wus-892181.html

Is it any good? It's a little cheaper than the Vlvo OEM paint. I think it is used a lot in the BMW and Merc circles but was wondering if it was any good and how it compares to the Volvo OEM paint (or Duplicolor for that matter). Should I just stick to the Volvo paint?

Thanks.

If you want it done right drop 100 on a cheap compressor and 50 on a cheap gun and have something you can keep.

Thanks Che. Maybe it's just me but I was actually pretty satisfied with the job I did on them with the OEM paint. Lasted a good 3 years and probably could go another year if I really wanted to. I'm sure a job with a real spray gun would be better, I've just never done that before. I have a decent 12gal compressor but would pick up a spray gun at HF I suppose. No idea on how to mix the paint from a quart can, where to buy it, etc. You have got me thinking though and I will look into it. Know of any good DIY sites around how to do this or am I making this more complex than it needs to be? Thanks again.

Just look up paint in the pages and find a dupont or ppg dealer. Call up and ask if they sell deltron or imron paint. Mixing can be done in an old sour cream container or something like that. Most of the 2 part paints mix 1:3 so its not that hard to get them mixed correctly.

Thanks Che. If I buy the gun there actually is a few things I could use it for on my other cars.

Che Nailed it..... Get a compressor, and a small detail gun from harbor freight. Put a water separator on the line, and shot primer, base coat, clear coat. Might need to get the old stuff OFF. Media blasted off or use some aircraft stripper. Once you have that set up, you can do all kinds of detail work. I use a gun from Porter cable, (i have 7 guns lined up) its a knock off of a SATA gun its like 35 bucks at home depot i believe.

If you buy Paint it will come in a container SEALED. Then like Che Says you need to reduce it. The ratio is 1:1, but there is temp specific reducers. It might even be printed on the paint the ratio. Ask the person at the shop for the right reducer. You can use any plastic bottle to keep small amounts in. Clear juice Bottle, rinsed with water, then thinner. You can use more thinner, but then run the risk of running. you want it as thick as possible, for coverage, but enough so as not to flash off in the air.

Well, I picked up a harbor freight paint gun (the 'professional' one with the purple handle haha) with an add-on water/oil filter. If I'm going to do this right, I figure I might as well get some White Silver paint (935) to match the factory finish. I can't seem to find it anywhere online though. Paintscratch.com and a few other places don't list 935. Can I pick this up from the dealer and if so what's a decent price to pay? Paintscratch wanted like $90 for I think a pint of any color which seems like a lot?

Try NAPA or Sherwin Williams Auto, they are usually able to color match what you bring to them. If you have a small part you can remove (gas filler door), they'll be able to work off of that.

before you use that gun take it apart and clean the piss out of it.. i used one of those on my front bumper and orange peeled the shit out of my paint.. we changed guns to a devilbis line gun and it layed down wonderfully, also make sure the mixture and air settings are properly set for the thickness of the paint you are using.

ps set your air to 45-50 psi,, and use the yellow pages to look up local automotive paint stores.. tons cheaper than paint scratch.com.. i got a kit of k2 urethane color matched to my car in a quart for 50$..
FOR SALE! PARTS FROM MY CAR!! pm me here.

Depends on what you plan to spray. PPG should be able to get you set up for around 75-100 dollars. Just find a dealer and give them your code. Just make sure if you are spraying any of the 2 part paints you have the propper resperator/forced air respirator/ventalation whatever it calls for. With deltron an imron tack coat is critical. Watch your build up and how its flashing and you should be able to prevent 95% of the orange peel. With Deltron/Imron go back and wet sand around 12 hours. Do not allow it to full cure or you will be in for a lot of work.

Thanks everyone. This is really good info. I will definitely go the local route to get the paint instead of online.
