As for Elring, those seals are junk. Similar to the hose I mentioned above, hold an OEM Volvo RMS and an Elring RMS. There is a big difference between the two. Same thing with the rear cam seals, among others. If you don't believe me, set up a poll and see what the rest of VS thinks. My opinion is not based on a single incident.

At what estimated mileages have you heard of and/or experienced Elring seals failing? I replaced both rear cam seals with this brand about 25K ago and am not experiencing any sort of issues. Or would it be better classified as a hit or miss type of deal that doesn't depend on any certain mileage or time increment?

Got a big cock? Let me see it!

If they aren't leaking I wouldnt worry about it.

Scott, I guess you have to look at it in a certain way. Some would hesitate in contacting a supplier since it seems sometimes we can be told "well this is what it is and you don't have to buy it if you don't like it" (doesn't apply to all suppliers, IPD as an example). Obviously taking that step to even pursue it might not be worth the hassle over a $5 part, most would just go grab another at the local dealer and call it a day. After multiple occurrences though I can see where this would become a wtf issue...Why does this part fail, etc, etc. Very easy to see why some would be totally heated after so much time wasted on a stupid piece of rubber.

Your reactions seems pretty great to me overall, I'm glad to hear that we can contact someone directly with product issues. Recently been seeing you or some other FCP folks posting around the forums but didn't quite get that feeling of "doors open" communication...this makes me feel a little better about the FCP brand after reading the responses in this thread :)

Now question, is the replacement Volvo part also going to be available separately for purchase off the FCP site soon? And since I believe FCP offers some type of warranty on many parts will that apply to this part being replaced with a more quality product if a problem arises? I will prob be looking at this as a standby to use if the URO one that I just installed decides to go to pieces on my gf's caR down the road.

I've just changed it for you guys; you will find that part number #1271653 is available on our site through Genuine Volvo only - http://auto-parts.fc...x?query=1271653

I just want to let you guys know that I looked through our warranty/returned items and this part number #1271653 has NEVER been returned under warranty to our company in its ENTIRE history. In FY09 we sold 594 units alone. Like I stated before, this is the first time since we listed this product in 2002 that we have had any complaints.

and the Elring seals are in fact same as Genuine Volvo is using.

...and Bosch also makes plugs for Volvo... but Bosch platinums and genuine Volvo are not the same creature ;)

I appreciate the willingness of FCP to make the situation right, but I think too often sub par aftermarket parts are pawned off as "OEM" quality and that leads to confusion among the consumer.
