Hello:
I realize this has been covered in another post, but I'm not sure what the conclusion was.
My 98 V70GLT had originally been owned by a limo service, and consequently has a custom trim and accessory package not configured like other GLTs. One of the items missing for some reason is the dashboard trip computer (avg. mileage, remaining miles, etc). However, when I look at the time/temp LCD below the speedo, I can faintly see the trip computer portions of the LCD. As I would expect, it was built with the display PCB required for the trip computer, but the dash switch is missing. I haven't yet rooted around for a wiring harness under the dash. What would I be looking for?
I've heard that Volvo builds PIN lockout into electrical parts so they can screw, er.. I mean help, customers with installation. Am I looking at something more complcated than just plugging in a switch?

I have the same model as you do, and I thought all I needed was the dash switch.
The dash is prewired already for the switch, it's a yellow connector, and the cluster already has the trip computer inside.
I bought a used switch and plugged it in but no luck with the trip computer function.
Some folks say that a PIN is needed to turn the function ON, but according to my VADIS no PIN is needed, but the function needs to be turned on by the dealer/shop with the vadis cart.
According to vadis all you need is the switch and to turn the function on, and vadis even gives a job(service pn) number for this service and allows 1/3 hr labor charge from the dealer.

That is what Volvo would pay the dealer to do the work under warranty, know as "Cost" like when you get a spare part there is cost, suggested retail etc. Well the same thing goes with labor, Volvo paying the bill is Cost, when the customer pays the bill the typicial charge to connect the VADIS cart is One hour labor.
The 1998 model doesn't use the VADIS cart, it uses the Volvo Scan Tool. (VST). When the 1998 was made all function were aready in the instrument cluster, but if you didn't pay for that option, and it was about $300, then it didn't work because it was locked out by PIN. Now years later, everyone that doesn't have the trip computer, gets the switch and hooks everything up and then they find out they need a $300 PIN number to get the thing working.
