This is a continuing problem regarding a sound my 850 makes on acceleration at any speed. The car sounds like a tractor, backhoe, grader etc... I have had the muffler checked it's fine, no CEL light, TB and IAC have been cleaned. Thel plugs, and MAF have been replaced. I am at a loss with the solution to this problem. Any ideas would be helpful.

hmmm interesting-haven't heard that explaination yet. Given your explaination, would the sound be at or forward of the gear shift? The sound I hear eminates from just under the console where the the tranny meets at the engine compartment.

check the flex joint, could be the metal piece has come loose, maybe manifold seals?

If this is an exhaust sound, and not a mechanical sound, no big deal. I know you had the muffler checked, but if the sound is coming from under your console, you need to have the whole exhaust checked. Get it up on a lift and look for black spots on your exhaust. Another way my buddy found out he had a leak was feeling around on the floor. When he found a hotspot, he knew there was a hole on the non-visible side of the exhaust.
It really sounds like you just have a leak in your exhaust, do you remember bottoming out anywhere? Could have knocked your exhaust.
anyway, just my $.02

I dont'recall any bottoming out-I did notice the gruff engine sound after my Indie replaced the bottom rear engine mount- could he have dislodged the exhaust components from the engine?
