Although I hate bumping a really old thread, was curious how's this turned out?

omg how did this come back??? it ended up being way to dark in the day light. I tried a few revisions but eventually lost interest in trying so i abandoned the project.

Did you try a 50% tint? That was going to be my first choice when (if I have time to) do this.

i did, and that is where i gave up.

If i were to try it again i would most likely use a privacy film, so it would appear black from anything other than dead on. But would cast all the light through.

Good to know. One of my friends owns a tint shop (been in the business 12 years now) I'm gonna see if he has a suggestion and scrap I can play with

I thought about the privacy film, but have no experience with if so not sure what it would do.

My thought was that if I couldn't use tint then I would try to use some tail light smoke on a piece of transparency or plastic to stick over the gauge face. I think that might be the best bet if I can get it to look dark enough.

And if all else fails just go white gauge faces

A big thing to watch out for is reflection. if you can overlay with a matte film you'll be in a much better place.
