Apparently no one replaced the 02 sensor since the car was new so will be a oh yeah! to get out. The only thing I have that will fit the 7/8" of the 02 sensor is a 6 point 7/8" socket and a adjustable wrench. Surely I'll round it off if I use the adjustable wrench right? Shall I smash away the top of the old o2 sensor and use the 6 point? I could go out and buy a 7/8" wrench but looks like the flange of the cat might get in the way.

What car? I'll assume an N/A 240. It might not actually be as bad as you think. Mine came out pretty easily. If you are definately going to remove it, you can cut the wire and use a socket.
Spray it down with PB blaster for a few days before hand. When you are ready to remove, start your car and let it run for 10 minutes or so. Get some gloves, because that header pipe is going to be hot and you WILL burn yourself if you touch it with your bareskin. From there, it's just a wrestling match. Once you get it to initially break free and start spinning, it should be easy from there. You may need a torque bar for this.

Unplug the wire leading to the o2 sensore and thred it through the box end of your wrench. PB Blaster is the stuff, you should have some in your toolbox!!!

Don't bother trying to run the car. That won't heat it up. Your best bet is to use a propane torch or something. They're cheap, they've got a million uses, and this is definitely one of them. If you don't have one, to the store with you!
In all seriousness. I had to use a box wrench on my 855. The sockets are generally too awkward for the area, in my opinion. It took me a good 30 minutes of heating the thing up to get it off though.
No matter how you heat it, be aware that your wrench or socket will get just as hot

I did it, After it soaked several hours with penetrating oil I smashed off the top of the old sensor with a hammer so I could use a normal 6 point socket, once it initially started to turn had to turn it back in and out several times until I got it out. Got the new one in with an adjustable wrench and hooked it up but the motor still doesn't idle right. Guess I have to bring it back to someone with a code reader so they can reset the check engine light?
