I drove one not too long ago. My impressions...
turbo wasnt loud enough
tight turning radius
brakes were impressive, especially for a heavy car
beautiful seats
didn't have the turbo-pull i was expecting
would be awesome w/ chip, exhaust, coilovers
active suspension is badass and VERY noticeable
I'm still iffy on the newer Volvos and reliability, being owned by Ford and all

Did you drive the automatic or the manual? The automatic S60R is much slower than the manual (to the tune of a full second slower in the 0-60 and quarter mile).

I have a V70R but it is basically the same as the S60R you are mentioning.
Answers for your questions.
1) I drive it everyday.
2) Comfort is useless. Sport is not bad. Sport is the default setting for the car even if you switch off the car in the Advanced, it will go back to sport when you start the car again. I choose Sport over Comfort while driving the car because Comfort seems like I am riding on a boat. Advanced is good but I wish it can be even firmer. While in advanced mode, the throttle response is also more responsive so it is a good setting when I want to speed thru other cars.
3) Known problems... There are quite a few for the 04. I'm not too sure about the 05 since I only had driven the car for a month. The only problem that I had was the stupid dealership charged me over $1000 for freight and PDI and they forgot to take out the springs extenders before the car delivery.
If you have any more question, feel free to ask.
