Hi all-

I have a 98 S70 GLT turbo, late build with mechanical tensioner. It is time to change the timing belt. The alldata instructions show that the vibration dampner should be taken off. The Bay 13 site does not suggest taking it off, but those pictures are for a hydraulic tensioner.

So, can I do the change without taking off the dampner? I don't have the special tool to hold the crank while I break the bolt loose. Do I need any other special tools?

Thanks.

According to VADIS, no need to remove dampner. Replacement of t-belt is the same as with hydraulic tensioner. Except you have to replace mech tensioner at the same time with the belt.

Also, this tensioner requires alignment according to engine temp, so make sure you know how to align it before you dig in there. blink.gif

How do I know engine temperature? Can I use engine temperature as ambient air temperature if the engine has not been operated for more than several hours?

BTW, what is VADIS? There are several of thems on Ebay sale. Can I simply buy it to read manuals ? Or, I need a special program to open the manuals. Thanks in advance.
