I have a 1996 850 GLT (sedan). My car uses the 15" 5 spoke wheels. If I were to buy a 5th wheel and tire, would it fit in my spare tire well? I'm taking a 2500 mile road trip in January, and I'd prefer to have a normal sized spare.

Take a tape measure to it. That's the most reliable way to know.

During the winter, our '95 854 base and our '96 855R carry Argo wheels and tires (15x6.5) as spares.
During the summer, each carries a snow tire as a spare.
Our '90 855 base with a third seat will not carry a full-size spare because it has a brace that intrudes into the spare tire well.
I put the spare in upside down with a "pad" made of newspaper to protect the wheel. I made a circle of cardboard to put inside the wheel and I add another "pad" made from a section of newspaper. I can carry the jack loose, a spare serpentine belt, spark plugs, headlight bulbs, a couple of rags, gloves, and a chock block. I still have some space left.
