Hello again,

More Newb questions. Everything is pretty self explanatory, but the lock pins. Does anyone know how to remove the stock lock pins in an 04.5 S40. Common sense tells me they screw off, because they dont pull off. However, before I take a wrench to them (plastic), I want to be sure. Please let me know!

Thanks, Mason

Ok, now I really need some help. I unscrewed the pin. Went to screw the new one in and the rod that the pin scres onto is NOT there anymore. PLEASE HELP, now I am officially freaked out. This is the product I am talking about. I can't believe you would have to take off the door panel, especially since they say "Easy 10 minute install"?? Please help!

I figured it out. If anyone wants to know the trick (maybe I am last to know), let me know and I will post it here.

On a side note, there is nothing like the feeling of "oh crap, did I just f up my new car" and then, "how am i gonna explain this"

well on the 70 and 850 series cars you just take off the door panel and snap off the lock pin... but on the 40 series I have no clue.. why don' you tell us Mason... smile.gif Did you get these on the group buy through swedespeed? I didn't think they had it all figured out yet?

i just screwed my OEM door locks down a little bit more so that when i lock the door, you can't see it sticking up. Looks good and the cost was $0.

Yeah, $48, but it looks nice and clean because they aren't rounded and sit completely flush. Plus they aren't as cheap looking as the plastic ones were. My interior is Beige, but the pins were black??? and they didnt look right. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Just remove the rings, and use some skinny pointed tool (I used an screwdriver) to move the pins back towards the center, then as quickly as possible push the pin down to engage it and screw on. the pins didnt go down like I thought, they actually moved left towards the interior of the car, so they just needed to be moved back to center so to speak.

that's wierd you had black door locks instead of beige ones. It would be nice to see them sitting flush though with the door. whenever i accidently lock the door with my arm, it pinches my skin between the lock and the door panel. Hurts like a mofo, espically at like 2 in the morning.

Yeah, I bet it hurts! Luckily I got rid of mine before I did it. However, I think that it looked pretty bad with the rounded black pins, so I am glad I did it. I think they are all black, because the rings are beige, but the pins are black, so it just may be that they are standard. I am also doing the aluminum Pedals, Foot Rest, Door Sill, and Grille. I have decided to do all cosmetic upgrades first, then do performance, so that I can remain focused and not be all scatterbrained. Plus, the cosmetic is easier (and cheaper) and I still have way too much to learn before I dive into computer/engine. I am also hopefully going to get some bigger rims and a sub. That's really all I have planned now.

I'm not sure if they will fit. I can send you one of my stock pins to see if it fits on your car, and if so, then they will too. I only ask you mail it back once your done so I can restore to original if need be. At least that way you don't have to drop money for nothing. They are sweet, and although probably not worth $50, they look sweet and I have already got comments (I didnt tell anyone I did it).

PM me if you want me to mail one.

Ok, hold on.. i screwed up.. (again)

mason, do you think that after seeing the Heico Pin, that you could fab something that would work?

I mean, just a lil peice of stainless attatched the the wire that attatches to the mechanism.. could be an easy mod..

Yeah, I would like some reverse indiglo gauges, but no dice. At least not yet. Hopefully the mods and aftermarket will take off for this car soon!

Ok, what I was originally asking is: the piece (with the Hieco logo on it) that just attatches to the peice of wire, that snaps onto the mechanism that pulls it up or down, depending on if you doors are locked or not. Since you have the Heico Pins, I'm asking you, do you think you could post some pics of the Pin, and the wire that it attatches to? (at least there is a wire in the 850 and 70 series, I could be way off on the 40 series) That way, I could get a good look at it, (without taking my door panels off) and see if I could just make my own pins out of stainless stock that I have laying around my work. biggrin.gif
