Yeah I can see putting close to that amount into a car pretty easily. My buddy has an Aebs motor that ran him about $6500....just the long block. Not to mention the turbo and all that other blah blah blah. I love these things, and as far as I'm concerned a cool car is a cool car....unless it's a scion

Maybe the CRX guy doesn't want the car to look like anything special for a reason... It's called a sleeper. And it really doesn't look THAT bad.

That's exactly it. His plan is to satin-black the whole car eventually, without any flashy wheels, bumpers or anything.
He sure fooled me, so it's working for him, haha.

I have not even done any internal engine work. Check my Sig. I did not spend this amount but to build my car according to the mods in my sig is 20k
With a built motor and custom turbo and injectors/tuning you could spend 3-5k on an engine.
It's not that hard if you use top grade parts and cut no corners
