The "racial issue" involved is that most white people live in a bubble where they are generally given the benefit of the doubt from law enforcement and are dumbly oblivious to it. Color blind and color oblivious aren't the same thing.

I'm arguing that middle class america lives in that bubble, which, while statistically white, should not be referred to as a "group of white people". If you are a black father of 3 driving a benz and wearing the same brooks brothers suit mentioned earlier, unless you get pulled over by the Klan, I'm arguing that he is most likely treated the same as a white man in the same scenario. Given the same verbal warning.

And it's not true that they are given the benifit of doubt. Especially in predominately middle class towns where white yuppies are the majority. The police are just looking to enforce the more popular crimes with that demographic. Without having stats handy to base this on, off the cuff examples might be DUI, junior operator law violations, speeding during the morning commute, and now hands-free or txt while driving violations.

I agree with that, and it's real progress for us because it certainly wasn't true even 20 years ago. It is, however, usually white people who are so oblivious on issues of race. Even middle class black people who get the same benefit of the doubt from the police are aware that they had to EARN that benefit of the doubt. White people just take it for granted.

What is still sadly true is that cops pick on weak people, whether they're black, poor, whatever, just because they know they can get away with it. No way the cop in this video punches a cute blonde girl in the face.
