To the comment that Safari is slow... this is true... and coming from someone who's used Macs since their inception... that's not a great thing to admit.

However... most recent version of Safari 5 is pretty awesome at the same time. It seems to be more and more site compatible... and loads HTML5 really well.

It's pretty safe to probably say Safari is slower than the IE on the PC............ and Safari is better than IE on the mac because there is no IE for mac. That's my kind of competition!

(FireFox FTW, though... seriously)

I don't own or operate this site and have no part in any of the code or process of selecting software. While it may seem that I "tapp danced around", that was hardly my intention. I'm only expressing my personal beliefs/opinion. Chuck will simply tell you "IE sucks, get something better" and you're right; that's no secret. If I remember to, I'll talk to him tonight about the IE banner. I'm serious when I say he might like the idea  Though having the website suck might demonstrate the browser's incapabilities and drive people to learn more about the situation. I'm not trying to pull a curtain over anyone's eyes, I have no reason to.

And while we're on the topic of breaking things down, I should add for those who aren't aware that this forum isn't handcoded by chuck. Most forums aren't, it starts out with a base forum software package. As I said earlier, the small hobby sites you're talking about are 2000% less complex than a forum and are significantly easier to write in general, as well as ensure cross browser compability.

sorry i was under the impressing that you worked/coded the site. In that case you were not Tap dancing. lol :D

however the 2nd part of your post is still only half true. YES a forum is much harder to code than a hobby site. however, when you compare VS to EVERY other FORUM on the NET. its one of the few who aren't compatible with IE.

just some numbers using forums i frequent........

volvospeed.com gets about....6400 visitors per day.
orlandoforums.com gets about...3300 visitors per day.
turbobricks.com gets about......2200 visitors per day.
stanceworks.com gets about ......6300 visitors per day
CFLeuro.net (our local car clubs forum) only gets 120 visitors per day.

all are compatible with IE except VS. and they are all much smaller than VS (except for stanceworks). I realize making VS compatible with IE is a lot of work but when you are large scale site, you need to cater to your members. again thats just how i would run a Forum.

The computers where I work are locked down, so downloading FF or anything for that matter isn't an option. Can't use FF on a thumbdrive either. So, I sit at a computer at work and take care of pm's and posting on my phone. At home I use IE a few times a year at the most.

Personally, I hate IE myself, but unfortunately a lot of us are stuck using it.

 I'm stuck using IE as well. And 7 was only "given" a few months ago. ;) Full lockdown, and even better, I can't plug a single USB drive in to the PC. I run mobile in IE7, not the worst.

I use firefox, but I tried the site in IE8 and I don't see anything wrong, what are the issues other people are having?

A Lot of websites show up a little funny for me as I use a bigger font than the firefox default but volvospeed actually shows up perfectly.

It astonishes me how the vast majority of people have never even heard of firefox, or for that matter they don't even understand what a browser is.

I'll make a small best in firefox badge to put on the bottom of the site. Believe it or not, these badges make a difference with high traffic sites.

Microsoft fell off the wagon a long time ago.

I picked a pretty circuitous route and arguably cheated slightly, but I'm going to get there

IIRC, Safari is dead slow though. I do like the interface, but Firefox and Chrome is better.

I have the newest safari on my MBP. Its just as fast as chrome. I use chrome though because of each tab being its own process.

LOL. I just saw this. VS is fully compatible with MSIE 8. As for 7 and 6 I am not going backwards.

When I said locked down, I should have said really locked down. They track every little move we make. We aren't allowed to possess flash drives, so plug one in and you're looking at time off. Try to put something on the computer, you're nabbed instantly and probably more time off just for trying.

working for a gov company, we have firefox already installed on all the comps.

very few people use IE, and thats just due to the intranet part of it.

I use, firefox and google chrome.

FF for vs and facebook, and chrome for work. haah.

I've cringed each time I come across a VS link, knowing that my IE browser will lock up or take 2-3 minutes to come back to life and then the pages are 90% blank lines, what a ridiculous un-user friendly situation. My passion is getting my 850 wannRbe to go faster/better and not ***king around with various browsers. Please put a note on the bannerhead to the effect "Use FFox or Chrome (or whatever) other than IE for best performance". This would have mitigated much of my anxiety about ever clicking on a VS link long ago....

Why don't you just upgrade your browser. MSIE is fine as long as its not an ancient version.
