So the time has come to swap out my tires on the S60. The first set I had when I got her from the dealer were some awful all season crappers from Conti that literally had chunks of the tires coming out from my rather aggressive driving. When I got the Pegs from Ozzimark via a sweet CL find, they had the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3's on them from an S60R. The fronts were notably more worn than the rears, but were quite good to drive on. The increase in road noise was....surprising to say the least, but I eventually got used to it. That, and the additional grip was phenomenal. The grip in the wet was amazing. Huge puddles, wet patches, etc. were no problem even at high speeds or around long bends.

I recently swapped out my suspension for the Koni + Eibach setup, which has done me good. However, I felt a pull to the right. I went to the dealer, got an alignment (they've done good by me for the most part) and it still pulled and they blamed the tires. Not sure if I believed it, but whatever. The rears were pretty low and the fronts, when they evened out, would be about toast as well. Figured I'd drive it and just swap out when the time came.

Well, Goodyear has the $80 MIR again, and the local place will price match with TireRack, which makes life easier. They no longer have the GS D3's, but they do have the Asymmetrics. I rode in a co-workers 2009 Corvette Z06 that had those on it, and they gripped like nuts (though to be fair, the rears are retardedly fat, and the fronts are also wider than my tires :() and I didn't really hear much noise on the new rubber. So I decided to try those out.

I swung by and ordered my tires today. I ended up going 225/40R18 instead of 235s due to the price difference. Like $40 per tire or something stupid for only 10mm of width and a tiny diff in sidewall height. Also, ever since I dropped the car, it's been rubbing again at full lock, so with any luck that'll go away again, heh. Looking forward to getting them and comparing them to the old ones. Also, to see if my alignment wasn't done right/something else is wrong with the suspension. Looking forward to not having to compensate for occasional pull to the right.

I'm looking forward to hearing how these tires stack up against the GS-D3s. I do love my Z1 stars, but those F1s seem to be pretty sweet tires.

I'm kind of shocked that no one cares about a good set of tires, or had feedback/comparisons with tires they've already used. =\

Actually its the first thing most Z06 owners removes are those F1s off there Z06s. Im a member of the ACR (Arizona Corvette racing) and i have seen 3 sec a lap faster with simply going from GY F1s to Michelin PS2s. Ron Fellows actually did a comparo between the F1s and the PS2s and was much faster by i think 3 or 4 seconds with the PS2s.The 2011 Z06 finally now has the PS2s as a factory option. But all that being said, im sure they will be just fine your Volvo. Just dont expect awsome performance with these tires on the track.

Yeah, I looked at the PS2s and they seem like really great tires, but I've really been happy with the previous F1s, so that's why I'm giving the Asymms a shot. That, and I was able to snag the $80 rebate. There are a few other tires I want to try out, the PS2s being one of them, but they're usually quite expensive. Looking now, it's $224/tire versus $172/tire. And yeah, I have yet to track, it's just a DD but I drive fairly spirited and I like having the grip when needed. The only real concern I have about them is the 240 rating, but the PS2s are even lower at 220, heh. Although, if you're spending Corvette money, I can see how the PS2s would come into play.

Not really? And when tires are discussed, it's often people looking for the cheapest tires they can get away with, not a discussion about the performance of the tires

For those interested, I swapped the tires out today. (after a bit of a fiasco at the tire place) Tires are great so far! They're super quiet (though they're new, so I'm waiting for them to get loud with some wear). Grip seems good, but I have yet to really slam them around a corner since I'm letting them seat a bit. Now I just need to find another 18" Pegasus since one of mine is apparently bent. :(

Awsome glad your pleased with them.

Me personally i've always been a Dunlop tire guy, they've always treated me well in performance/wear department.

Dunlop is 75% Goodyear. :) So you're a Goodyear Lite kinda guy then. ;) But yeah, had I not gone Goodyear, I'd have gone Dunlop.

Can anyone see any bends here? Either they got it wrong on which wheel, or it's a minor bend I can't see, or they lied. Regardless, they said I needed to replace this wheel due to the bend.

I'm going to check the other rear wheel as well, but haven't had the chance to. Also, the store trashed my old GS D3's after I told them not to. =\ Got another F1 Asymm outta the deal, but it was a long story.

Edit: Here is a decent res pic of the wheel from the back as well. Please excuse the dust:

Assuming the optics on your camera are good, I think I found that bend.. Look at the 7 o'clock position, it seems slightly indented. I still say jack the car up with the wheel still bolted on, and spin it, you'll see the bend really quickly that way, if it is really there.

I'm pretty sure the crap stock tires on the Z06 are the f1 supercar not the different f1 asymmetric model which are great.

Hmm, that's a good point. Looking around and I can't find a definitive answer, but it does appear to be the "Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT" with most picking run flat options, so these are indeed different tires than what comes on the Z06. I guess I either read the tires wrong on my co-workers (most likely) or they were swapped out, but I don't see the Asymms in the z06's size.

Either way, it's too short of a span to tell, but man am I lovin' these tires. :D
