I have a 94 volvo 850 sedan, non turbo cuz i also have a dsm thats been modified to the point of where even awd doesn't help on a rainy day so reliable swedespeed here we come. but anyways, i would like some opinions on different mufflers people run on their turbo and non turbo cars. It will have 2.5 inch pipe from the header back and an aftermarket race cat but idk about what kind of muffler i want. I would like to know what mufflers people are using and why they like them?

There's a Borla muffler muffler on my S70 (I'll try to find the model # for you), but it sounds reaaaaal nice in my opinion. I'll try to grab a sound clip for you tomorrow.

I dont like the sound at low speeds but when the engine sings it sounds great.

I've got the Magnaflow #14835, and it sounds awesome, however, I'm a turbo and a manual. The muffler is a 3" and 4" out. Needed a reducer for my 2.5" pipe to fit.

I was looking at a few different ones like the magnaflow SS muffler, a flowtech afterburner or just a plain old thrush turbo muffler. i know someone with a 850 autocross car with a flowmaster and it sounds way too raspy for my taste. i know borla makes really nice mufflers too. I'm not looking for extreme performance here, i just want something that sounds cool but keeps that volvo 5 cylinder sound.

Click on the link in my sig for magnaflow which I dont think has one bit of raspiness to it. I love the borla race series mufflers on these motors.

A turbine wheel makes the best muffler

Otherwise this doesn't belong in performance.. It is an NA car, after all.

oh come on, i know its a non turbo but that doesn't mean that it can't sound freakin sweet and get even a few more ponies opened up. if i wanted bad to the bone performance there are about 3 or 4 T5 850's in the self service junk yards by where i live and i'm sure i have the smarts to do a conversion and throw water/meth injection cuz compression and boost make more compression which makes more heat which blows stuff up and this has to be my RELIABLE car cuz i also own a mitsubishi eclipse gsx(NOT reliable car). i wish i could have an 850 turbo, don't get me wrong but the offer for this non turbo was there so i took it

Well, that's my point. You're just gonna be changing the sound, a cosmetic change, not the performance. ;)

However, that said, Magnaflow and Borla straight through mufflers seem to be really popular with the whiteblocks

If I had a NA i'd probably go with a dynomax super turbo series. They have a real nice tone.

now with the dynomax, why don't i just go with thrush cuz they're made by the same company, the thrush mufflers just rust out faster if you don't throw some ceramic paint on them. but the super turbo style muffler is on my list lol. when i get around to doing this i'll buy whatever one catches my eye and go from there, maybe see what kind of gains i'll have

I've got a Dynomax Ultraflow on mine and it sounds pretty good. Not too loud at idle and doesn't have much drone.

stock size is 2.25...i want to go with 2.5 so it flows a bit better but a non turbo doesn't need anything bigger unless you want torque to suffer

and does anyone know about the OBX headers for the non turbo 850? they look decent but i don't want to spend 200 bucks on something thats going to break for no reason

and for those of you who are asking the question why bother? It would be because I'm 21, don't want another turbo car to mess with and i'm bored...oh, and the most important part, i love volvos(don't we all)
