Blew upwards, melted heat shields and roasted a trans and ujoint, among lots of floor board paint. Filled the cockpit with smoke and landed a DNF. Luckily no fire through the shifter. Lap 1. 4th session on it (so under 5 hours of use). The new borlas (now made in China) do the same thing

I've never heard of a warranty for road racing parts ... interesting idea I'll give it a shot. The muffler's cost is near cursory compared to the resulting damage and labor, unfortunately

It blew out upwards, and the packing you see there escaped on its own accord, not touched before the picture

Mazda Rx-7, naturally aspirated running ~1750* EGTs. $30 cherry bombs are more reliable in this application. We used the top of the line borlas for a few years without issue but their quality has gone way down and now do the same thing. These are sprint races, ~30 minutes of road racing, always between 5.5 and 9 thousand RPM. Anyone know some real sturdy strait through racing mufflers?
