I had a guy just install an R manifold and 18T on my car...I left the car with him and he did all the work. He just installed everything with new exhaust manifold gaskets and all, but when he turned the car on, he immediately noticed a an exhaust leak.
He says it's coming from Cylinder 1from passenger's side (furthest to the right if you're sitting in the car).

What could it be?

I got the R manifold from a junk yard from Florida last year...

FYI: The manifold is off of a 2007 S60R.

take it home and check it all out yourself...

if not, get a new one... or a new mechanic...

it wont hurt to drive it, just some added engine bay heat and a code lol

I bet your shitting your pants and cursing the gods right about now!! I want to take this opportunity to invite you to Christianity Posted Image. There is no one better to get a opinion from, other then Jesus H Christ himself. You have to choose him though Posted Image!

I would tell take off the heat shield and the source to the leak should be rather apparent. Did this guy thoroughly clean both surfaces before trying to mate them up?? I would agree with gmsgltr, if your mechanic can not find a simple exhaust leak you, you might want to find a new one and ask for your money back Posted Image.

Ha, no thank you, I haven't cursed anyone and have managed to handle this fairly well -- Praise be to the One and Only Creator. :D

I don't have a heat shield, so it should be even easier...this guy is really good tho...he built himself and helped his friend with 800+whp beasts. His is a 240sx and his friend's is a Lexus SC400, both 2JZ swapped.
He says he can feel the leak but the manifold gets hot really fast.

I just stopped by my mechanic with the intention of driving off with my car.
Started it up and it's way too loud...I felt around the exhaust manifold, and it seems that it's coming from the side of the cylinder, don't think it's a crack in the manifold.

The manifold will likely come off tomorrow for inspection.

Anyone else who has any input, please chime in. :)

Double check all of the gaskets? A crack in the manifold would have been pretty noticeable, so I doubt it's that.

I would say do this as well...i don't think that 1st gasket is seated /installed correctly...i am not 100% sure if you can see the gasket from the bottom of the manifold but jack it up or look while it is on his lift if there is gasket hanging from the bottom.

If the gasket isn't dropped down as the prior poster suggested, maybe the deck of the manifold is warped. It can be resurfaced. Only problem, if it was superheated enough to warp, the turbo seal may be poor as well. I'd be willing to bet the gasket isn't seated correctly.

Hey all. Problem has been solved. There was a little bit of casting flash on the corner of the manifold, zipped it off with a grinder and it was good. Switched around the gaskets, put some sealer on and everything is nice and tight. So a note to all future exhaust manifold swappers! Check for casting imperfections!

Now on a side note, you guys dont have to retune for the better flowing manifold and turbo? Does your stock ECU compensate for the increased airflow? Im a standalone guy and we have to do it manually so Im jut making sure.

Absolutely you need to re tune to see maximum benefit from the mods. His manifold and turbo share similar flow characteristics to the stock components, so with the stock/generic aftermarket ECU tune, it will work, but for maximum performance, fuel and timing needs to be tweaked.

The tune which I have been running in my car for two years is a RICA tune which is actually tuned for the 18T.

Also, on a side note...Tom (Eviltom) took me for a spin in his 2JZ swapped 240sx and wooooow! It's so fast I just couldn't stop laughing!

I'm just gonna give up, sell my Volvo...there's no point lol.

And that's with him only running 20psi which puts out around 550rwhp...he's gonna run 40psi at the track hoping to break into 9s.

He keeps egging me on to throw a huge turbo on the T5M, but it's not that simple.
