Its not a popularity contest, more like a "think before you post", and a way to filter out nonsense and wrong information.
I picked a pretty circuitous route and arguably cheated slightly, but I'm going to get there

If its useless, why the poll?
Its not a popularity contest., more like a "think before you post", and a way to filter out nonsense and wrong information.
Because it is annoying and used for nothing other than attempting to ebully people.
If the information is wrong we know it, if we don't we correct each other. We do not need a useless system like the one that is here.
And it is exactly a popularity contest, do you REALLY need me to explain to you why I felt like creating this poll? I think it's pretty self explanatory.

Agreed it's silly, it reminds me of some high school game. I had no problems typing +1 for posts, we should go back to that.
Glad we are on the same page.....seriously guys, we know what feedback is credible and which is I'm dumb.
When people post incorrect information do we not correct them?
If you don't like a person fine, but the whole post rating system has turned into a, "hey, I don't like that person, red button". Oh hey, he's cool, green button.......for real, it's pretty stupid and juvenile.
It has gotten to the point where it really doesn't matter if the information that's posted is true/relevant, if you like/dislike that person that dictates which rating you will choose.
Does being in the red zone mean life is coming to an end? Surely not, but it is just stupid, period. I'm not even going to bother going into the fact that only I seem to get suspended for misusing it, as that is a whole other issue. Selectiveness and favortism at it's best there.
Also, would you go around at a Volvo meet, go up to someone you don't know and say, "MINUS ONE"? I can tell you one thing, I wouldn't react to that too well personally and I dare who ever stalks my posts to do this in real life.

The rep system only matters to people who care enough to use it. There's no need to have a thread for this, Chuck decided to add it to the board as a feature and it's gone a long way to stop stupid "+1" posts. If you ignore it then it doesn't matter.

This thread is dumb. On multiple occasions you abused the rep system, for you to turn around now and make a thread suggesting we get rid of it because other people are misusing it is ridiculous.Because it is annoying and used for nothing other than attempting to ebully people.

There is a difference between going into a single thread and repping someone down, and searching through a member's old posts for the sole purpose of repping them down. You were guilty of the latter, which is why you were suspended.Glad we are on the same page.....seriously guys, we know what feedback is credible and which is bullshit.

Since you seem so upset over it, maybe it will make you feel better to know that plenty of other members have been warned and/or suspended for misusing the rep system. You are certainly not the only one.
I don't think the rep system is a popularity contest. There are plenty of members I like who I don't +1 just because I like them. There are also plenty of members I don't like who I don't -1 just because I don't like them. I don't even look at it that way. I will +1 a post if it's good, funny, I agree with it, etc, regardless of who posts it. The opposite of that is true as well for posts I don't like. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I think the rep system is used more for post content, not member like-ability.
Also, the rep system is not only used for differentiating credible information from bad information. Like other posts mentioned, it's a way to "+1" something without actually having to post "+1." You can agree with someone without posting that you agree, you can show that you liked a post without actually having to post that you liked it. Another function of the rep system is it can be used with certain settings to show/hide certain posts. VS allows you to view only posts that are above a set threshold, i.e., only view posts that have a greater rating than "-2."
I do agree that the system is sometimes abused, and I've recently started paying closer attention to that and trying to stop it.
Bingo. That's the bottom line here.I don't see why it matters if we have it, I don't pay attention to it half the time and only give reps when they are deserved. Post whoring +1's was a stupider idea and gave way to Justin's post whore legacy
The rep system only matters to people who care enough to use it. There's no need to have a thread for this, Chuck decided to add it to the board as a feature and it's gone a long way to stop stupid "+1" posts. If you ignore it then it doesn't matter.

It's too bad we need green and red coloring to help us decide what's credible, who needs their hand held when they cross the street?

I am not getting into it with you on this forum anymore, you tend to make my login attempts fail, wouldn't want to upset anyone either.
I suppose if Chuck put it there then God intended it to be there, rock on.

Hey guys! Posting here to make everyone mark this post as -1!
This rating system is retarded.
Agreed, it's just too retarded that we need colors to help us decide what's credible.
+1 for you.
