Im about to replace the rear deck speakers of my 2002 s60 they are 8 inch speakers, what size would fit better there..... , 5x7, 6x8, 6x9, 6.5inch?

any advice on what to do there.....

the ohm of the speaker wont matter since i would be powering the speakers with an amp.... so any additional suggestions on which speakers to buy?

Are you asking which size other than the size that fits best would fit best?

stick with 8". and yes, resistance of the speaker does matter, equally as much with an external amp as with your stock system.

Why are you replacing them?

I don;t think I've ever heard of an adapter for that size, and i personally would stick to the 8" (um is it not an 8" round?) as anything smaller would just not sound as good.

But you can certainly make your own adapter plate. A jigsaw and some polycarbonate would work just fine. Upgrading the speakers is the first thing i do to a new car, but usually the task is stepping UP a size, not down. The majority of the down-sizing is to accommodate component setups, so you can fit a 6.5" round and tweeter in the hole for a 6x9 (etc). The best sound would come from a 6.5" component setup, unless the rear deck is just doing low-end, in that case just get a better 8" driver.

the thing is i want to replace them with 6x9 cause i heard they give you a punchy bass

the ones in the deck right now 8'' are mostly bass, so in order to keep that little bass i would replace them with something better.... but obviously like you said i would have to modified a little bit, drill and stuff.

All things equal, 8's will produce more bass than 6x9's. Keep it cheap and maybe do an 8" subwoofer replacement like a Tang Band. Never tried them, but people seem to talk good things.

Never heard of them before. I have the Rockford M282B's in my car. They have less midbass than the Dynaudio 8's, but overall I like them alot. You need to decide what kind of replacement speaker you want and pick from the models available.

1. Coaxial 8" speaker
2. Midwoofer 8"
3. Subwoofer 8"

2&3 you could always add more speakers to the rear deck, just remember that you need to power them somehow either with the radio/factory amp/aftermarket amp. Your car your choice, just need to design a setup.

i think i would replace them with midwoofer and obviously power them with the amp,

my setup:
front doors (6.5inch) a pair of c2 650x JL audio (2 way coaxial)
rear doors, (5.5 inch) a pair of Infinity from a dodge ram speakers, dont know model (2way coaxial)
rear deck, planing to buy a pair of JL audio zr800 8' midwoofer http://www.sonicelec...o ZR800-CW.html
and i have a subwoofer 12'' dont' know the brand.... the midwoofer front doors speaker, rear door speakers, and trunk subwoofer all of this will be powered by 2 amp i think

for now i will start the installation with the door installations and maybe later with the midwoofer and subwoofer installtions

any suggestions, doubts or comments ? :)

Do not put much faith in sonics warranty. Seen first hand denying warranty claims on their products. As to your setup, that is not a planned system, but rather an idea of what you would like to do.
1. Dodge factory coaxial, really? Free does not mean it's good(nor bad, but in this case yeah).
2. rear door location is poor, any good speaker in the rear deck will drown out the sound.
3. space and wiring of multiple components, will it fit.
4. budget, what can you spend on which components to get the most out of your dollar? You have considered speakers, but what 2 amps?

Once you start, you will know what direction you want to take it,GL.

im not using any warranty stuff since im buying everything from ebay....... my father does fix electronics things.... so i have no problems there...

1. they sound really good (at least to me)
2. well maybe nothing in the rear doors then
3. space for wiring would be a little complex but already have all that figure it out
4i already have everything i said, except the rear deck mid woofers

i just want a decent quality setup

:) thanks for helping me man

Punchy vs boomy bass is often a function of enclosure. A sealed enclosure (in this case your rear deak and seats) will produce much tighter bass than a ported unit. Try sealing the air holes in the deck. or ideally, replace the 8" with some nice low-mid drivers and add a sealed 12" in the trunk.

It's also a function of tuning. Lots of folks upgrade their stereos, but to get the real benefits you need to EQ it correctly. A 15" sub will produce tons of trunk popping bass, but it will also produce some very smooth sound at lower levels, and with the right frequencies compensated for.

How do you get to the speakers on the rear deck? Looks like you can't go through the trunk so there must be some way you get at them from top?
