So we hit the drag strip last Friday.. Didn't bring the Volvo as I wasn't able to get it ready in time. Spent the evening videotaping various runs, including this one inside my buddy's SVT Focus. Last time he was there it was 2006 and he's now got every possible bolt-on. I'm trying to convince him to go the way of forced induction, much like everyone on VS tells the NA guys to sell their cars and get a turbo :P

Enjoy:

He better do something  every possible bolt-on and still only pulling a 14.4-5ish I'm assuming?

And fail for taking a passenger at the strip  :P

Most people take out spares and anything else that isn't bolted down, he adds a passenger

Zetec motors are shit; particularly the head.

Uh no, the 14 second car here is the Sylvia. The Focus ran a 17.5 @ 83mph in that run  Four years ago he ran a 15.8 @ 92, but well...it's a Ford so something must be wrong this time around.

Ouch.... I seen the 13.9 from the sylvia, but it didn't seem like he was that far back  After watching it again, he was back there a bit wasn't he :P

Did he have a passenger on the 15.8 run?

Most FWD "sporty" cars are only quick due to their lightness. Thats why guys with civics get hard-ons when they get a CAI because they can actually feel a 2-4HP increase. :P

Yeah dude... this was the Sylvia guy's first time at the drag strip too. Even with a crappy launch he got a 13.96 @ almost 109mph. SR20DET with GT28RS.

This was the 15.8 second run vs. me in the SRT4 right before my fuel pump died. Early 2008 :

really? id love to know why you think this.

they really aren't, the SPI motors are shit. the zetec is a respectable motor. btw your friend is a shitty driver.

i had an SVT focus with every bolt on, tuned, gutted, slicks, quiafe, and good track conditions and i ran a 14.1 @ 101 with a 2.1 60ft. he should be able to run mid 14s with good driving.

OK........ gutted, tuned, slicks and only pulled a 14.1? Posted Image

And he's the shitty driver? he had full interior by the looks of it not to mention a passenger and I doubt he had slicks.

With all that work to a gutted car with slicks I would agree that the motor must be trash. You answered your own question. ;)

 Shitty driver? Reaction time, 60ft, and ET's are indicative of how good a driver is. An 83mph trap speed shows that something isn't right. What's wrong, I hear you ask? On the front of the car, there's the grille, and on the grille there's a blue oval. I used to own one of these cars too, and I got so sick of all the things that went wrong. Whether it was a slave cylinder that bled all over the floormat after 35k or a sidemirror falling off, something would always be wrong. Thank God it was under warranty still. Maybe Ford makes better cars now, but they were garbage back then I tell you.

Even after the ex-girlfriend made off with the Focus I still somehow end up helping guys get their Focus back on the road. (no pun intended) The only good Focus has a Volvo heart beating underneath its bulging hood:

The regular Zetecs? They were meh motors. The SVT Zetec is much improved. Better-breathing head, piston squirters, and forged rods  Cast aluminum pistons, but they can withstand forced induction to a decent point. Don't even get me started on the weaksauce Duratecs they strap on to Mazdaspeed 3's. Read Johann's Chronicles of Area 55 to learn just how "unthrilling" the Duratecs are.
