YAY FOR VARIETY!

I'm sure you did. And don't listen to these knuckleheads... They've never experienced the adrenaline rush of taking a car past the limits of its performance capabilities and living to tell about it.

You laid the challenge down Darnell. Tonight after work I'm going to drive my car 100+ mph into a curb and see if I survive. I hope nothing distracts me and I miss the curb completely. It would be an epic fail on my part.
His of course. I've never put a rally car into a wall at pikes peak because my co-driver flipped two pages at once.

You should use my gopro to record it for posterity's sake...

Oh heck yea!!! It can be played at my funeral (maybe) so everyone can see me in all my glory. Or if its a FAIL, we can play it at the bar later and have a good laugh at my expense. Face Palms all around!!!

Alain, if you don't mind me asking, why are you on constant prowl for Volvos? Are you flipping them?

Maps / Rally directions. If properly scouted his navigator would have had notes on how to handle the upcoming roads. If you've never read the article about his antics in Mexico it's worth the read. Hilarious hijinks.

Nah, it's a hobby and if I had the garage space and a few more skills, plus time not totally consumed by my kids and my job, I would totally flip cars. But I'm looking for the perfect replacement for my S70 which currently has 160k miles on it and probably will need to be replaced within the next 4 years (by the time I reach 200k miles). So I search for the perfect replacement. This one was ALMOST perfect. I balked on a 98 White on Charcoal V70 T5A with 80k miles on it in Des Moines a few months ago and really regret it now. Then there was the silver on charcoal 98 S70 T5A with 44k miles on it in Pittsburgh last month. Couldn't get the seller to take it in for an inspection because he was too busy with school. And then suddenly another buyer showed up locally.
In the last year I've literally been minutes from closing the deal on 5 different cars that most guys on this forum would consider perfect as a starting point (low mileage, excellent condition, right price) and there's always been a reason not to do it. Money isn't the issue, it's sitting in the bank burning a damn hole in my pocket. I just want the car that feels right.
And I love the adrenaline rush of being the first person to find something that A) the buyer doesn't realize is a hidden gem and B ) tons of other enthusiasts are looking for. Yesterday was fun even though it didn't result in a car for me.
It's a sickness, I know.

I never even considered that they needed maps. I honestly thought that they used the same trail/road/path every year. I'm gonna have to read this. Thanks.
John, 2 questions:
Did you have a co-pilot during your rally experience? And, thinking back on that picture you posted, I don't remember seeing any skid marks in the grass. I would have tore up that entire yard trying to stop my car... How did you stop yours with little to no collateral damage. That's some Damn good driving

I'd be happy to help Darnell, Gabe probably does the best impression of me - which he perfectly executed at the meet at Tommy's when Justus said he might be looking for a car:
1. Acceptable year(s) and model + trim
2. Mileage
3. Must have options
4. Price range
5. This is the critical one: are you willing to travel to pick it up and how far?
After that it's as simple as plugging it in to the algorithm and checking the RSS feed when the cars roll in every day.
