Been working on a new info display for my dash. Controls lighting, and I'm debating putting gauges on it or running it with only buttons and Info.
Posted Image

I've already got gauges on the PC based screens so no real need for redundancy...

I personally like ussing the Microchip PIC18F4550's: 40 pin DIP (stupid easy to solder), full speed usb, 48 MHz, and plenty or code space and RAM, not to mention internal EEPROM, I2C slave/master, and so much more.

Some updatationalizationism I put the LCD on a very long cable and enable touch screen):

Your threads deliver. I've yet to see one that didn't interest me. Neat idea, I'd love to know how you like it over time.

Having used the PIC18F4620 this semester with MPLAB, i gotta say kudos lol....i couldn't even figure out SPI on the damn thing, and bit-banging is slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

If you need something milled and want me to prototype or check placement, i can use our craptastic mill for free for the next few months :P

If i can figure out more advanced LCD screens other then the crappy 2x20's with built in ASCII and crappy 4-bit commands, then i'd be more help :P But, i just don't know enough C to make GUI's on a standalone LCD.

And someone told me that the PIC18F4620 wasn't meant to be soldered on board, only socketed. I only socketed mine on the PCB, but good to see that you can solder them.

there are different pin packages, the one with two rows of pins can be socket-ed which i do most of the time, but you can still solder them to the board. And thanks, i will keep that in mind
