Hi all, I recently purchased a 1997 960. When I first got it, it had no problems shifting except into reverse. I left town for a week and left my car in my friend's driveway, and as soon as I started up my car after returning, I noticed a flashing orange arrow and the Winter and Standard lights were flashing. I've done some research and saw that this may be a PNP problem. However, I took it to an auto parts store and one of the guys brought up the error codes, and one said "TCC Failure." I unfortunately can't remember the specific code readout. He also shifted through the gears and told me that my shifter was unusually loose, and that worn bushings may be causing the problem. I desperately need to DIY fix this, so it would help if I knew exactly what to replace. Any help or info is appreciated. Thanks!

Knowing the code would help isolate the problem so you not throwing money at it. It could be the PNP or something else. If it was the PNP sensor, then you could row the shifter back and forth about 10-15 times (engine off of course) to clean the contacts). Does the transmission feel like it is starting out it 3rd gear instead of first? Does your backup lights come on in reverse?
