What do you think?

Murals are exempt, and so are commissioned works (ie, owner gave permission).

the poll doesnt even make sense.

First its a pita b/c the city sends a notice saying at the cost of the home owner he must remove it.
Second, i cant even go on with my rant b/c im so annoyed.

Im coming over to your place to take a shit on your door step, and ill curl it at the top like ice cream. bam i have art. Atleast you dont have to sand blast my shit away.

edited part: it can be both i guess, but 99% of the time its destruction of property b/c i feel only the owner can determine it as art.

The poll makes sense. The last part of the posts says that commissioned and legitimate work is excluded from the poll, so therefore you only vote for the remainder (which is the majority).

Punishments for graffiti/tagging should be strict, somewhere along the lines of decades in prison doing laborious work (yes, it costs a lot in tax dollars).

I gues it depends. I voted destruction of property just because i had some friends who were trying to sell their house and some kids tagged a garage door across the alley from their house (it was visable from one window) months before the home was on the market and the owners of the tagged home (who were losing that anyway) refused to remove it. My friends had some interested buyers who all got freaked out and worried about crime when they say that tagging.

Granted it's a tight market and my friends home was rather high priced for the area (but well deserving of it with a brand new 4 car garage and a double lot) it still has put a damper on them trying to sell.

Of course my vote was to go over there and "tag" that white garage door with some white in the middle of the night and problem solved. but i'm sure had that happened, I'd have been the one getting picked up by the cops.

I had a relatively expensive real estate sign of mine that was tagged in the past week. It was a pain in the ass cleaning it up (luckily adhesive remover worked); it is a problem because I rely on people reading that sign and inquiring about the property.

Kind of sucks that I have to spend my time and hard earned money cleaning someone else's "art" up.

^there we go!....and i understand the destruction of property aspect completely we do commercial real estate and have had dumb young kids come tag stupid names, or there "gang" or w/e the hell they want that not only looks like shit but has no meaning, but that doesnt take away from some of the amazing things created on that medium, also the poll is kinda confusing because, yes it is destruction of property, but it can still be art. If someone came and painted the mona lisa on my garage door, its destruction of my garage door, but its still art...
