So I was trying to be jdm drift hero, and failed, and spun and taped a snow bank with the right front, not even near any of the pillars on the R bumper, somehow, both of them failed. This is the 2nd bumper a minor knock has destroyed. I'm done with these things, and getting a standard 850 front bumper. That front lip must catch everything and cause the whole thing to break. I mean, even today, I tagged the rear pretty good against a snow bank too messing around, and its FINE! I thought I really slammed it pretty hard too!

Just don't crash your bumper into anything and it won't break. This sounds like it could have been totally avoided. And your bumper is still black compared to the rest of your red car though isn't it? Just get some bumper repair and fix it?

That's your problem right there

They are way to easy to crack but I agree that this time sounds like you had it coming. The first time I cracked mine was in the snow, a chunk of slush came off a truck in front of me and I had no way to avoid it due to traffic. Got home and both struts were cracked. :(

 You guys are harsh! If this were a quilting forum and a woman was complaining about how she broke a needle doing some unusual stitch work the response would have been more like:

"Oh, I know, I totally hate it when that happens."

"Oh, that's terrible, those needles always break when you're really having fun."

"Tell me about it girlfriend, I broke one doing something similar last week!"

And of course,

"Hey, should we get together for coffee and go shopping to brighten your day?"

Where's the love?! And yes, I've heard all of these comments out of my wife and her friend's mouths - she happens to have a group of quilting friends.
 :P ;) B)

That said, I started laughing as soon as I saw the "JDM hero" comment.

First off, I don't need the preeching from the safety aspect. This was done in an empty parkinglot just for fun. No one was around to have their lives endangered. I'm sure I'm not the only member on this site who goes and messes about in big lots in the winter or summer for that matter.

The taps were really slight, like I got home and then saw the cracked pillars when I went back to my car to get some things out of it and I was rather shocked. Pillars are where my last one went out too. Tho I think I remember reading this is an 850 R bumper issue.

Yeah, I guess it was avoidable, but lesson learned I guess, if I'm gonna do this stuff, keep this bumper as the beater, and zip tie the bit*h back together, and buy a regular bumper thats nice for nice weather, or when I'm not on the track or something.

At least maybe I can get my bumper pre-painted this time

I think your definition of slight is a bit off. I have tapped curbs with mine and nothing as broken. Whatever you hit it was a lot harder than you thought.

ive smashed mine on curbs trying to make u turns, and all it did was just scrape it....

so I too believe your SLIGHT definition is a bit off...

Apparently you cant turn an s70 very sharply.

Really? I've never tapped a curb, so idk, but that sounds a lot harder than what I did. Granted I think one of the pillars had been pached before looking at it. I saw some sort of filler/compound that wasn't plastic, so maybe that had something to do with it.

zip ties here I come. At least with it flat black, you won't notice the zip ties

At least I had some fun today if nothing else. I wished someone there had a camera, me and a few guys all got together and just had fun.

Hmm, ok. So R Bumpers are weak because they don't hold up when you plow them into stuff?

Makes sense......damn R bumpers.

I crashed my old honda's into banks all the time, doing the same stuff, not literally crashing, and I only lost a splash guard off my Integra. IMO, seems they should be able to take soft snow at 15mph without breaking, but I guess not.

I actually nailed a racoon going 50km/h. Fog light lens fell off, the R bumper was bent at the lip, but I managed to bend it back without a problem and everything was fine and dandy after I replaced the driver's side foglight. I was impressed at how it held up :)

You do know you drive a FWD volvo, right?
However, you will fit right in with the jdm drift crowd with your zip ties. You might want to get some bandaid stickers too :)

I have hit a lot of cones and some timing equipment with the R bumper and yes, it is scratched, but not damaged. Bumpers are designed to give first to help keep you safe when you run into stuff. Better to replace the bumper than your whole front end/radiator.

why are you trying to drift a fwd car anyway? Get a rwd volvo then go to town.
